The long awaited PowerSwapper is now officially released!

Many of you already know about PowerSwapper, and now it is officially released as a mod swapper, mod downloader and mod packer.

To sum it all up...(quote from README)

PowerSwapper is three things:

1: PowerSwapper is an application that installs and uninstalls

mods for you, without you having to unzip big archives, and read

a long readme file to understand how to install the mod.

When you install one of your mods, PowerSwapper opens the

selected mod file, unzips the files, takes necessary backups,

  and you're ready to play!

When you're tired of playing the installed mod, you can just

click the uninstall button, and your mod is instantly

uninstalled, and the backuped original files replaced.

2: PowerSwapper is a .mpk and .ver editor:

As PowerSwapper needs its mods to be in a specific file format,

an editor for these is included. The points of using a special

  file format for mods are:

  * One mod in one file. Not more than one file.

  * The mod files include various bits of information:

    - Name of the game the mod belongs to.

    - Version of the mod.

    - General information about the mod.

  * The mod file physically contains all the files of the mod,

and along with these, automatically listed installation

    instructions for PowerSwapper.

3: PowerSwapper contains a download manager for mods where you

easily can select the mod you want from a list, and click

download. When downloaded, the mods gets automatically

archived in PowerSwapper's smart mod archive.

I know many of you don't use mods because you don't understand how to, or think it's too much work to install one and take necessary backups and all that. PowerSwapper makes that extremely easy!

NOTE: With PowerSwapper, it's easy to tell your friend to download a mod so that you can play it on the Internet!

Finally a modswapper which works has been released, and can be downloaded by clicking here.

What you download:

The zipfile in the link contains an installation program. Create a PowerSwapper folder on your computer, and put the installer in it, execute it, and type "Yes" to answer wether or not to install PowerSwapper. When that is done, you may open PowerSwapper, and start using mods!

It doesn't come with mods, but I'm packing and uploading mods as we speak.  :)

Download these using the Download Manager!

IMPORTANT:

Those who have downloaded PowerSwapper, please download it again, and reinstall!

PowerSwapper's Download Manager has a serious error in it, which is now fixed.

I believe "all" games, although I doubt it was tested to work with all games. But the way it works it shouldn't be a problem. From what I gathered Cyborg said in other threads.

Cyborg in your powerswapper main thread you should edit your first post so that it contains a link to the download.

Can it only be used for EBFD or for all games?

Please just tell me which game you want mod support for, and I can add that game.

PowerSwapper can basically mod any game.

Posted

Hmm, there's a bug I'm working on right now that makes some mods corrupt.

Please be on the lookout for a patch in the Download Manager.

Please just tell me which game you want mod support for, and I can add that game.

I was thinking of following games: c&c generals and zero hour, renegade and battlefield 1942

Posted

How do you add a game?

Go to the Mod centre, and click the "Add Game" button in the right hand menu.

A screen will appear asking you for three things:

* Game name( I guess that one needs no explanation)

* Game folder( Either the physical folder the game is located in on your computer, or(much better) the registry path to they key telling where the game is located. (e.g. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareWestwoodEmperorInstallPath) )

* Executable file name (e.g. EMPEROR.EXE )

When that is done, you may start creating mod packs for it.

If you wonder how a mod pack should be designed regarding folder structure, please feel free to open a mod you already have.

Please update Modswapper now.

This is best done by updating through the Download manager, but can also be done by redownloading and reinstalling PowerSwapper.

C&C Generals has been added, with one mod.

Where is the tech support for this ?  :-

I am getting some error when running it. I have VBRuntime V6 installed.

Error:

Run-time Error '429'

ActiveX component can't create object.

Hope that this seems like something obvious, as I wanted to start using this.  :'(

Where do you get the error?

When trying to start PowerSwapper?

Anyway, please wait for PowerSwapper 2.

It'll be available shortly, with streamlined interface and graphics!

Posted

The minute I click PowerSwapper.exe.

I get absolutely no problems with the install, It says everything it expects is there.

As for Powerswapper 2 (PS2), I dont need (not that I dont want  :P) Streamlined interface, I need it to work !

I imagine it will not work on my machine either (PS2).  ???

All bugs will be fixed in PS2, aswell as missing files.

I'm glad you reported this error. It's the first one so far...

My attempts to reproduce the error have been futile, but I will try my best to eliminate the error.

All is well. Everything goes on schedule, as planned, and all planned features will be included.

I'm soon done with the offline part, and will start on the online part after that.

Well, while I wait for V2 to come out, can we trouble shoot my V1 ? Maybe its my SP2 ?

I have a few antispyware things around, as well and NAV...that kind of thing

Posted

I would be pleased if you trouble shooted PowerSwapper, yes.

I have Service Pack 2 installed myself, and the two go hand in hand like nothing else...

It may be your NAV, but I can't understand why... Please turn off NAV and see if that helps.

It definately can't be your anti spyware software.

Oh, and...

The reason why it takes a little more time than anticipated is that I'm developing some software for my school theatre which is due now in December. When that is done, I will continue working with PowerSwapper 2. Also, I'm working on a new compressing/decompressing technique which will install/uninstall mods twice as fast as before.

Hah ! You thought I would forget, didnt you ? Huh ? HUH ?

Well, Mr-Dont-Post-And-He-Might-Forget, I remembered !

So, where is it ? I keep wanting to try out some mods, and always think of this. Remember version 1 failed for me.

Any news is good news (considering we have had no news for ages).  :D

The new version got paused as I was developing a new graphics layout and optimized compression algorithms.

Now I'm almost done with both, but as I've got myself a few jobs, I can't spend all my time on it.

It requires more work than I first thought to create it, but it will be done, hopefully before summer.

The plan is to really impres you this time.  ;D
