It appears that they're not really for Kerry, but against Bush. Since the US has a two party system and the only way to get Bush to lose the election is to vote en masse for Kerry, it only makes sense that communists would vote for Kerry.

yeah, and it is that kind of pragmatism that many of my friends have, and I think it is kinda depressing to live in a way like that. I personally wouldnt vote at all for president now that I think about it. I will vote in local elections, but definitely not for the presidency. Why would I vote for anybody I didnt have complete faith in?

It's fairly common for someone to vote for a politician so that another won't get a vote. Surely you can find a reason for one of the politicians not to get in TMA, which is reason enough to vote for the other person. What about the potential of 3 supreme court justices retiring? Surely you have an opinion on an issue that was decided closely, and may change if these 3 retire and the new president sends 3 nominations in to the Congress? There's always a reason to vote for President elections.

whats the point?

It doesn't matter who you vote for, you end up with the governement.

Agreed with the local election. It si teh local MP that will fight for local interest. But when you vote for a party in the UK, they are all the same, slightly different manefest BUT they behave exactly the same.

How many British here for a moment think that IF the Tories or the Lib Dems held the majority seat in the House of Commons that we would not have gone to war?. Wrong we still would have gone to war

I know what you mean styx. It seems that the igher up you go in power, the greater the beurocracy becomes. I agree with you though acriku that sometimes it is important to vote, even if it may not feel right. Honestly though I am more concerned with the judges we send in than our next president. I know that sounds weird but right now it is a greater fear I have to have bad judges.

So TMA, there's something to motivate you to vote. Based on their stance on issues like abortion, separation of church and state, gun control, etc, who would you rather have nominate the justices that reflect the same stances? Who will nominate good judges? Voting locally is good because it is really the congress that approves the nominations of justices, so do both and you'll have ease of mind at least.

So what exactly is your point? I'm a communist, and I (more or less) support Kerry, simply because I have no other choice. Let me put the communist point of view in the simplest possible terms:

Kerry = very bad

Bush = extremely bad

With such lovely options, we'll take the "very bad".

Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, that "Communists for Kerry" website is a rather obvious joke, just like "Billionnaires for Bush":

Some friends of mine feel the same way you do, but look at it this way: putting people with your personal views into office is not a 1 step process, it is a gradual one.  If someone had run on Kerry's platform a century and a half ago, it would have been unelectable.  Changing political culture cannot be done on a candidate to candidate basis, but must be viewed in the long term.

Yes, voting for Kerry is the only alternative to get Bush out of the White House, that is true. And voting for someone else would only decrease the chances for Kerry to win. So it's a kind of paradox.
