Kerry has never been a flip-flopper in any way, shape, or form that would warrant such a title.  Bush, on the other hand, has been so not only in rhetoric but in action.

Bush Rejects BET Offer to Address Black Americans

That's nice.

Hmm, Kerry supports affirmative action. I think that would be the biggest problem I have with him so far.

Sure it is nice to give minorities opportunities, but when they get preference over another person just because they are a minority (and possibly over people more qualified than them) I find that discriminitory itself. Yes, having a diverse workforce is usually good for a company, but I am not comfortable with hiring someone based on discriminating others. It's unethical.

Discrimination on the basis of race and colour is illegal in every Canadian jurisdiction.

Taken from my Human Resource Management book.

Although I thought I heard that the government is required to hire a percent of minorities(?) and physically and mentally challenged workers.

Affirmative Action can be a good measure, actually, as long as you don't try to make it permanent. The point is to give disadvantaged minorities a boost until they are on an equal footing with the majority, and then stop. In some places, Affirmative Action has already achieved its goals and the time has come to stop. In other places, however, there's still a long way to go.

So basicly affirmative action is balancing out minorities and non minorities. So non minorities would have less opportunities just so others can have more?

Crappy example.

There is an unequal % of minorities vs non minorities (say % of respective population with jobs.) Affirmative action would then take jobs away from non-minorites and give them to minorities. I don't see that as fair. As it is disciminitory.

Unless you mean minorities are not getting jobs because of race (discrimination).

Then obviously you need to get rid of dicrimination.

Yah my argument is flawed somewhat.  :-[

I don't like the fact that someone will get a job simply because they are a minority or non-minority.

No. The point is that affirmative action is necessary when the non-minorities (i.e. the majority) have far more opportunities than the minorities. By giving more opportunities to minorities than they initially had, affirmative action brings them to the same level as the majority, and achieves equal opportunity.

And my point is that when equal opportunity is achieved, affirmative action should stop, so that it doesn't end up creating an inbalance in the opposite direction.

I don't like the fact that someone will get a job simply because they are a minority or non-minority.

That's right - they shouldn't. The role of affirmative action (and other policies) is to eliminate the role of a person's ethnic background in deciding whether he gets a job or not. The idea is that you should balance negative discrimination with positive discrimination in the other direction, so things will be balanced out.

The Canadians against bush is pretty cool. Funny an American has it as his msn display picture. (Even though his roots are from PEI.)

They got some pretty good antibush stuff.

I love how Bush said that Canadian drugs are not safe, and now that there is a flu shortage he needs Canadian Vaccines. And how Cheney said that producing flu vaccines is unprofitable. How is it unprofitable to produce a product that is required by millions of people? Quite simply put the price high enough that it covers your costs and creates a profit.
