Alright, well here's the situation: My friend's dad wants to sell me his PC for 200$ (he hates Windows, and wants to go MAC).

His specs:

2.2ghz Celeron

256 DDR ram

Onboard sound/video

Ethernet/modem

Now, in turn, I'd give this PC to my mother, who would use it for all buisness/work purposes.

My specs:

P3 1ghz

256 DDR ram

Geforce 4 Ti 4800

Soundblaster Live 5.1

Firewire, 3 ports

Ethernet/Modem

But what I would do with the Celeron, is upgrade it to the following for around 500-580$ USD.

P4 3.2 GHZ HT

512 DDR ram

Geforce 4 ti 4800 (transfer mine)

Soundblaster Live 5.1 (transfer mine)

Firewire (transfer mine)

Motherboard: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=241567

Think it's worth it? And the reason I'm even bothring with the Celeron is it comes with a 17 inch CDR monitor, and 200 watt sub, plus I'd transfer over the 256 to the P3.

Overall Price: 700-780$ USD (and both my mother and I will have PC's to fit our purposes.)

Personally, I would loose the old ram and put new DDR400 in there. Reason being that you'll otherwise slow down the processors capabilities (the P4 3.2Ghz). Talking about slowing down, loose the Geforce 4 ti 4800, it'll be the bottleneck in your system. Apart from that, not a bad system.
