Well, I have a GeforceFX5900Ultra with 8X AGP capability, but my motherboard only allows 4X maximum. When I put my settings on 4X and try to run a game such as Doom 3 alpha, PainKiller or UT2003, the graphics either go really weird and you get loads of random colours, or the screen just stays black. If I put it down to 1X or to PCI, however, the game works fine. Any idea why this is?

Also, my graphics card whirrs really, really loudly. Any way of shutting it up (I'm sure it shouldn't make so much noise...)

Thanks in advance.

enabeling AGP 4X is not the best option on all motherboards, did you install your MoBo's drivers ?

About the noise. . is your graphics card cooler working ok ?

About the noise, the entire FX line is really loud.  However, if you only hear it after playing a game for a while, and/or you get a lot of hitching/wierd glitches in games, you may have an overheating issue.

Hehe, I bet you regret not buying an ATI card  :P (Silent and powerful)

Anyway, yes, the card is supposed to make a lot of noise.

And I think perhaps you should flash your BIOS to get rid of that AGP problem.

AGP 4X should work fine for those cards who support it(you can never be totally sure, though)
