Selfish it may be but better her than me. I'm not an altruist.

Besides, it's not my duty to go around poking my nose into other people's business. Now if this 'little girl' character were to be replaced by a friend of mine then chances are I'd wander over just to see what was happening and, after making absolutely sure that my intervention was desired, intervene.

better her than me....jesus, you're a sad man but I guess you allready knew that.

SO let's say this little girl person was now changed to you! and say I went by hearing a little girl scream should I just go on? would you want me to? or would you want me to see what the hell was going on?

you see if you help others you get satisfaction from it, when you give others gift it gives pleasure to see their smiles when they open them... I guess you never felt this way...you should try it, it's the best

Sure it can. And the feeling is even more special when you don't get it very often.

If it were me, and the situation was certain, of course I'd want help. But by no means would I expect it. I have a very dim view of human nature, and I'm of the opinion that the vast majority of humans would act as I have described above, throwing aside their precious moral standards. I'd try to help myself because I certainly wouldn't expect anyone else to help me.

But if you help people with the motive of it making yourself happy then you are just as self-serving as Dustscout and it's just a twist of fate that that's how you get your kicks. When it comes down to it, would you honestly get raped and dismembered so that that girl might live? You might say yes, but until it happens I won't believe, I'm afraid.

you need proffessional help....

@ Apollyon, you can say what you want, I don't think twice before intefereing ESPECIALLY when it's a girl, you can say what you want but in my eyes hitting a girl or raping is the lowest a man can do.

and no I don't do it to get my kicks I do it to please others I can't understand why this is so hard to understand, maybe it's just me, maybe dustscout is right and I'm the only person walking around in my own little pink world.

Could be argued that you too need therapy for the pleasure you get from pleasing other people which is a form of attention deficit.

I'm not saying you do, and I don't think dustscout does either, but I do think that that is a poor way to argue a point.

Unlikely. It's a common delusion.

Out of interest, what makes hitting a female worse than hitting a male? I've always believed that the sexes should be equal in everything.

1. I didn't say "interfering" because I would do that in a moment; I said take her place.

2. Then why does it make you happy?

Posted

take her place ?? I don't get that, it would be kinda hard..

why it makes me happy? well that's just a pleasant side affect, if I get up at shit-o-clock to go pick up my friends in town I do it because I want, I don't expect anything in return, I donate to various help organisations because I have enough and there's people who's less fortunate than I am, offcourse it gives satisfaction but it's like I go around everyday thinking I'm oh so great because I try to save the world.

1. Hypothetically.

2. You have restated that that you help people, and you have restated that it makes you happy, but you have not yet stated why.

no I wouldn't be in her place, offcourse I wouldn't, who would??

why it makes me happy? ... what is the purpose of life? is there a god? how old is a dog?

I can't figure out what you mean apollyon, on the first one.... offcourse I wouldn't want to be the girl, but I wouldn't just go by with my head looking the other way.

I don't do things for my own personal gain that would be cynical, like I said offcourse it gives me happiness to see other people happy but doesn't everyone? There's nothing more sad than to walk around looking at angry people all day.

1. Well, like I said, if, by swapping places with the girl you could save her, would you?

2. I agree, but I'm just asking you to stop and ponder a bit on why exactly it feels good to help people.

1.: Have I ever asked anyone to swap places with the girl? if so please quote it?

It was on that basis that you were claiming the moral highground over Dustie. He was basically saying that there was nothing to his advantage in helping the girl, sow why do it? You get happiness from helping her, thus you have ulterior motives besides her safety. QED. I also never claimed you asked anyone to, it is a simple question which you appear to not want to answer.  :)

Wow, it seems there are quite a few people here who consider themselves rightful to decide about life and death.

Like Spectral Paladin said before, the guy obviously was acting under some sort of psychic disturbance. None of you guys are qualified psychiatrists who can judge wether or not this man can be held accountable for his actions.

But you just did when you said he was "obviously acting under some sort of psychic disturbance", and unless I'm mistaken, you're no psychiatrist. :P

Also I think you were reading an earlier page when you posted or something.

It's obvious this guy has some psychic disturbance, otherwise he'd not sexually asault children.

What's not obvious if this affected his way of thinking enough to make him unaccountable for his actions.

Why should someone be psychically disturbed for having... tastes that are different? Sure, it's not normal, but difference does not equal disturbance.

I think you are getting me wrong here, I asked DustScout what he would do if he came by and saw the situation, he answered more or less "look the other way" I then asked what if you were that girl would you like someone to come and help you.

I wouldn't help the girl so I can get happy! I'd do it without ever thinking.

Not really. But, for the sake of argument ignore the argument with Dust and just answer the question if you could.

Also, you seem to be skirting around actually wondering why you would help her really quite conclusively -- why don't you want to look further into it and realise that it has nothing to do with higher morals and everything to do with instinctual reaction?
