Okay, let's assume that Bush looses the election, and there is probably no hope for the Independent Party (or whatever it is called). So, Kerry wins, and becomes president of the United States.

But my question is - what will change?

Say, the war on terrorism? The situation in Iraq? What if US troops are forced to stay in Iraq because of the violence?

Democrats will feel vindicated, and the United States will probably stay in Iraq for as long as it was going to, anyway.

1. There are several third parties: the Socialist Party, the Green Party, the Communist Party, etc. etc.

2. If Kerry wins the election, he will probably repeal Bush's tax cuts and the USA PATRIOT Act, raise taxes in order to balance the budget, cut spending on defense (esp. "Star Wars"), and so on. As to the mess that Bush got us into in Iraq, I doubt that Kerry can just yank the troops out, but he will probably develop an exit strategy. The war on terror will probably keep going as it has. Really, the most significant change is that we won't be dealing with the most secretive administration in recent history, or a moronic inarticulate lying president, or a bloodthirsty arch-conservative cabinet, or anything else to do with this administration in particular.

Taxes will raise, the USA Patriot Act and No Child Left Behind (HAHA) will be repealed.  Probably the Draft will be reinstated, because our troops will be combat fatigued and can't stay in Iraq for years per unit, they need fresh replacements.  Some cuts on defense spending.

I think that the US will slow down a little and evaluate what its policies really are. I sincerely doubt that electing Kerry will enact any major changes in the US government, nor do I think that Kerry's election will "doom" America, as many Bush supporters are wont to say. I do think that he will attempt to repeal the PATRIOT Act, but with a Republican majority in Congress, this is a long-shot. In fact, except for trying to enact new legislation -- which, even there, he may be defeated -- I do not think that Kerry's election will do anything but make the world breathe a little safer and eliminate long-run possibilities of neoconservative policy being enacted within the next 4-8 years, because of Kerry's veto.

The Republican majority is being contested, actually. Based on the ads I've seen on liberal blogs, it seems as though there are a few key seats up for grabs.

At least you're not as bad as Miles is, Dan. Earlier today, he told me that the NRA was turning against Bush. Which, if you paid any attention to the convention they just had, is a long-shot, if even accurate to begin with.

Yes, but I don't think they will be elected for some time.

I wouldn't quite say that.  Kerry is a shade better than bush.  Foreign relations would improve for sure, and he would probably impliment a saner economic policy.  Other than that, I support Kerry only becuase I want to stop the harm bush is doing to America.

what i want to know is .... are people voting for kerry ?  .... or are they voting against Bush.... theres a big difference.

I've asked myself the same question, and I don't like the answer.  Kerry, although he has some good, sensible positions and will probably improve life in America (although not as much as some would have you believe), is really only popular becuase so many people are outraged by bush and want him out.

I really dont see how anyone can vote for bush...He has done nothing for america, not one good thing, and dont list going to war with nations becouse of false intellegence a good thing  ::)

I am bothered by much the same thing. In the rush to show Bush the door, how do we know we are not simply replacing him with a man who is taking advantage of the current outrage to put himself in power and institute his own different, but equally-insane, ideas? Personally, if we have to throw Bush out, do it and put in John McCain as president. He doesn't even want the job. That's more than enough qualification.

Why do you all think that going to war was a bad thing?  Especially over "false evidence."  Can you 100% say that is true?  What if Bush has never been told that they were false?  What if he went to war on what he thought was true, then you cannot really argue with him!

It's also horrible to lose 40,000 Americans a year to drunk drivers. We will never know all the reasons why those Americans drank, drove, and died. Yet, we are okay with those deaths than with the deaths of 750 Americans who volunteered for duty, knew the risks, did their duty, and died trying? They were soldiers. That is all one need to know. Yes, perhaps it is sad that a leader sent them to die, but if that leader believed what they were fighting for was worth it, then why must we fault him? We (Americans) will condemn a man for the deaths of 750 soldiers, but we will not take any strong steps to curb drunk driving when it kills 40,000? Inexcusable.

Furthermore, I looked at John Kerry's site. Here is the second point he has about the war; "We have to succeed in Iraq. We simply can

One good thing for Bush? He rolled back the steel tariff, opening up the door to free trade, an economically-sound and proven trading policy that allows for growth in specialized American industries, lower prices on steel and other goods for which steel is an input, greater profits, and a greater standard of living on the whole for the American people.
