Spiritual or Physical?

I have wondered about this for awhile now.

Things like pauls transformation, the existance of paul, the transforming of Leto II into a worm-like creature, the time nexus during paul's living on arrakis, the guild navigators.

so many things in Dune are quasi spiritual. I guess you could say meta-physical, in that they go along side or are on a different level than the physical. I am asking though, is it spiritual at all? If so what is spiritual and what is purely physical?  Almost everything can be explained physically somehow, but does it touch on the spiritual?

What do you guys think about all these things in dune that lean toward both. I think that most of it is in fact physical, just not understood yet. Still though there are things unexplained in the dune universe. what do you guys think?

One of the most "unexplainable" things in my opinion is the idea of "Other Memory".  Not the thing itself, because it is explained, to an extent, as being a genetic memory stored in our cells and such; but rather the idea of transferring such memories.  In the later novels... (Heretics/Chapterhouse Spoiler)

[hide]The Bene Gesserit transfer Other Memory simply by touching foreheads.[/hide]

Also, the idea of the Spice Agony, releasing hidden abilities within a person is very quasi-spiritual, as you put it.  ;)

It looks like Frank Herbert was puting both in a coherent physical-spiritual symbiosis. Wouldn't the physical aspect brings the spiritual aspect and vice versa?

It is the reality, isn't it? In our lives spiritual and physical are linked. For instance if you use drugs, your degeneration of your mind will cause physical damages. And if you are hurt by an accident, you will change you mind and your point of view, things will have not the same importance as yesterday. :-

Completely agree Leto le Juste: physical and psychical (therefore spiritual) are completely interdependent. And as some physical mysteries won't never be unshrouded by spirituality, spiritual ones won't never be unshrouded by physical.

That's like it is, in Duniverse or in ours as well.

In my opinion much if not all is spiritual.

Spice is scarce.

Water is absent.

Hope is absent.

Control is absent.

The only presence is god-worm.

And his presence is to be feared as much as the absence of anything else.

They forgot that in the CoD miniseries, there is too much emphasis on ecology. The god/leader power has to be feared, that is the motivation for LetoII.

Paul made the people addicted to promises.

LetoII is the delivrance.
