TMA_1
In Dune Messiah and so on, the Tleilaxu rarely mention their religious convictions. In fact I dont think I ever came across it. There were mentions of their moral code. In fact they had an interesting way of killing others, allowing them a way out so that they may have escape. Later in the stories though, mainly heretics, you read of a religious fervor that is huge! I am asking, where did this come from? and could it be that it was a later invention? If it isnt, then I can only guess that face dancers either arent allowed to participate because of their state as practical doppelgangers. I dont think this is why though as mentions in the later series of face dancers with religious feelings are mentioned. Maybe through the years their status and position changed, or maybe because of the reign of Leto II their religious feelings grew. These are all guesses, any of you have hte right answer?(on a side note, nobody has answered my question on if Leto is a true worm or not, since he is composed of many sandtrout, while the appendix's mention only a single sandtrout evolving into a worm after the prespice mass explosions. IM me with info for this.)
Egeides
I think that the reason why we hear about the tleilaxu and their religion so lte is that we really never see the tleilaxu on a closer look before. When we get to see them, we are entering the "secret world of tleilaxus". When we are not behind the curtains, none of the tleilaxu stuff is really seen. Timenn
I believe there was somewhere in the book, Heretics or God Emperor, where was explained that the Tleilaxu changed their ideals and turned into religious fanatics. And that happened during God Emperor of Dune.
Emperor Harkonnen
You get an insight in the tleilaxu world in the prequels when Hawat visits the planet and eats at some kind of restaurant or something. think it was in House Harkonnen. Timenn
Hmm, I wouldn't trust on what the Tleilaxu were with such a source as the prequels. They did more wrong. And I've become quite sure now that the Tleilaxu weren't fanatics in Muad'Dib's time...
Emperor Harkonnen
perhaps not, the prequels doesn't say anything about that I believe. but let's not get into the debate about the prequels not being real dune books again. hawats visit to the tleilaxu gives us a view of how it could be on the tleilaxu home world. Caid Ivik
I would say that Tleilaxu were just a powerful cartel of genetic specialists, who had a monopole on their products and tried to maintain it, so they fought against all odds: Bene Gesserit, Muad'Dib, emperor Leto... Only prequels make from them fanatical djihadists, like many other parts, without base in original saga.
Mahdi
quote author=Timenn link=board=1;threadid=12627;start=0#msg211043 date=1071672728]Hmm, I wouldn't trust on what the Tleilaxu were with such a source as the prequels. They did more wrong. And I've become quite sure now that the Tleilaxu weren't fanatics in Muad'Dib's time...They changed a great deal between Muad'Dib's time and Heretics, just after Leto II death, I would assume. Before that, face dancers were just as smart and powerfull as any other tleilaxu, indeed in Messiah Scytale was the smartest, most powerfull of the conspiracy, out-plotting two Bene Gesserit (one a Reverend Mother and former imperial truthsayer) and a third level guild navigator. In the altter Dune books Leto is looked upon as a great prophet. As the tleilaxu tried to kill him in GEOD, that must have came after that book, suggesting this huge religious revolution, which also created the Tlielaxu caste system of Tank, Master, Face Dancer came after the events of GEOD. Perhaps it was even sparked by the events of GEOD.
Emperor Harkonnen
Yeah Scytale was really smart. a little bit too smart in my opinion. but it was that which made the book exciting and fun.
