I've wondered quite a bit about one special thing.

Many people are told: "You have no life".

Like if you sit very much in front of the computer or have a very special hobby not many poeple like, you're sure to get those words at your face.

Do they mean that you're dead?

No

Do they mean that you have no social life?

No, because chances are high you're browsing the internet while at the computer, and therefore have quite a social life, or are part of a club with your special hobby.

However, do you really have no life if you sit much in front of the computer or sit all day looking at your stamp collection?

My thoughts about this is:

If you like what you're doing, and are not discontent with your situation, you have a life. However, if you are unhappy, but still continue with what you do all day, you have no life.

To have a life then means being happy about your current life situation.

I, myself, like to do whatever pleases me most, be that going for a walk, sit at the computer or attend a party.

yeah... i guess those are senseless things to say.... who are you to tell if one has a life or not...

Generally they mean no social life or whatsoever.. (not going out, not talking to many people in real life etc.)

But it is not up to anyone to define wether one has a life or not... and I agree with you on this:

As long as you are happy, I would say you have a life... if you are not... then i suggest that you do something about it... if that is possible ofcourse.

Many people say i have no life. I spend every night with my band recording demoes and what not. When I get home I generally just lock myself in my room and play with my bass for hours. I spend a good amount of my time working a shitty, thankless job for barely any money, but when people say i have no life, I just turn and say when I have my millions as an internetional rock star we'll see who's laughing. It's also pretty hard to keep a girl friend with what I do so yeah maybe I don't have a life, Or do I?

exactly. I love going out, hanging around with friends, and women... but i still like computers.... but that doesn't make me have less of a life than anyone else

You have the life, that's for sure. And also it is your decision how you'll spend its time. Of course, fun shouldn't be the only purpose of it, let it is spiritual, or material, social or individual, virtual or everlasting. It's a question of priorities.

Depends. I have no life. What makes me say this? I hate the way I have to live it. I'm stuck doing exams I don't want to do for a subject I most likely will never need to get a job I don't want to live a life I find infinately horrifying. The big picture holds nothing at all for me.

Do I enjoy myself? Only when doing things that won't benifit me in the slightest (or so my parents and teachers would have me believe). I like my computer, I like books, and I like meeting my friends outside of school (which happens like once every two months or something).

But that isn't my life. My life is exams, jobs, careers. Friends and computers are just part of a huge depressing 'thing.'

Agree/disagree? I dunno. I just made that up. Geez I'm depressed...

[On a side note, I think the justification they use is that a computer or a book isn't 'real' as it's only represented life rather than real life. Seems stupid to me...]

Amen Dust scout, that is exactly how I feel as well.

Stuck in a place I dont want to be, away from everything I like, going to a shitty school doing shitty work about a topic I dont care about for a teacher I dont like, all so I can get something called an "education" when this education really is nothing more than a peice of paper that says "I am educated."

Damn, I am depressed arn't I?

People just like to devalue others to make themselves feel more valued. Its social economics, really, you reduce the value of other people, and your value will go up in relation to them. Its human nature, sadly, we can be cruel to each other, and often, our cruelty manifests itself in thoughtless ways. If you think about many of the things people say to one another in anger or disagreement... it's easy to see through it.

Humans are sadists. It's part of what makes us human. It can be found in something as large as genocide of a nation or laughing when someone falls over.

Don't fight it.

That's certainly a baseless opinion Dust. It's even shown to be wrong everytime I or somebody would immediately refuse to inflict pain on someone else, and especially for pleasure.
