I would like to know if there is anything I need to know when inserting a new RAM card. I have go the right stick (256Mb SDRAMM PC133). Does the biggest amount need to be in the first slot or doesn't it matter? Can I have 3 sticks of different amounts as long as it doesn't exceed the motherboard limit?

Thanks for your time.

BTW,I don't know my motherboard type, all I know that it is a DELL 4100 system. The sytem model number is XPS-Z.

You can use any kind of combination in the three slots(I assume you have either two or three). You don't need to think about sizes.

What you do need to think of is that you ground yourself(touching something that has connection to ground. Many electric appliances have this) before touching the RAM cards, or anything inside your computer for that matter.

Remember to open the slots by moving the two clips on either side of the memory slot before you insert the card. They usually close themselves as you insert the RAM, but please see to that they are closed so the card has no chance of falling out.

Yeah I know how to put one in and all the usual stuff (i did build the comp.) but I have heard that on my mates board, you have to run two cards of the same size in slots 1 and 3! So I didn't want to mess anything up...... (like flashing my bios with the wrong update cause some ****** gave me the wrong file, can't even tell the difference between GA-7VRX and GA-7VRT, lousy punk.......)

oh, although you already did it, i wanted you to know that the ram is supposed to fit in in only one way.

Well i said supposed to, because i almost managed to do it the other way too, frying my computer whahah.... good o'l times

i had a bit of a problem when i installed a 128 mb ram stick to boost my system up to 192 mb ram, it didnt want to fit, i could take the 64 mb ram chip out and put the 192mb ram chip in its place but i couldnt get the other slots to close, it took me about a hour of tinkering and almost breaking it to finally get them in.

He said he put a further 128 MB stick in + 64 MB= 192MB

Good morning Flameweaver ! Heh heh .lol ;)

you might be right, but i quote: "it didn't want to fit, i could take the 64 mb ram chip out and put the 192 mb ram chip in"
