Seriously though, the books make a few references to the Guild searching for more planets like Arrakis. In fact, I believe the prologue of House Atreides is a Guild report on that topic.

I would think that you need money and troops to explore the outer borders of the Known Universe. This is because you never know what you might encounter.

I'm not too sure about foldspace travel not taking up any time; In the preludes, when Leto was accused of shooting at Tleilaxu ships, he turns on his shields. This stopped the navigator from navigating, and I believe the book said that they were somewhere in subspace, or at least that they fell out of subspace. If the travelling itself takes up no time, then it would be extremely unlikely that Leto put up his shields the exact millisecond the ship jumped.

actually, that probe was from an advanced race of aquatic creatures. The probe itself is one kind of them. It is suited for space and seeds life of it's kind on other planets. when their kind was destroyed, they were in rage over their loss.
