TMA, you almost said exactly what I said ;)

Basically, I'm saying that Dune isn't made to be realistic in details, in its story or anything but may have some general lines that are.

oh sorry man, I think that the post you made was just a tad bit complicated and oversaid. I reread it now and it was my fault. sorry :)

Seeing as how the genre is Sci-Fi, it is not meant to be realistic. However the Sci part always makes you wonder what will be possible in the future.

Picture yourself in ancient Greece. Now imagine humans being able to man missions to the Moon and beyond. Doesn't really seem possible in those days...yet here we are.

Just food for thought.

I find most of the aspects in Dune not very realistic, but the human behavior is quite realistic. That said, I would like to say something about the science in Dune. At this moment it's not realistic, but look at how SF allready influed science irl. Sliding doors in ST:TOS now exist and no one thinks they are strange. Communicators in ST:TOS.. cell phones anyone. I do think SF can make it self realistic. If it's a good idea in the book (theorie), some SF-freak (eg. Dune reader like us :D), will invent it, someday...

acctually what I meant with realistic is: does it follow the laws of physics? if so it could happen.

personally I think that the human behaviour isn't that realistic. the humans are a bit too smart I think. but maybe humans do develop a better brain 25.000 years into the future.
