When I exit the game "Emperor: The Battle For Dune" a problem persists. The monitor shows a black screen and I am only able to use the hot boot key sequence. The computer is not hanging and the keyboard and mouse do not make the error beep noise when pressed. Due to this problem I am force to shut off my computer improperly. Thank you for your time.

Windows 98 SE

500 Mhz Celeron

95 Mb RAM

17.1 Gb Hard Drive

on board video card > less than the game requires

I'm not sure exactly how much this is because the computer is not with me at this time. I know the value is less than 10 Mb.

creative live! 5.1

This game runs fine when using the 640X480 video resolution, low detail, multi-texture and T&L off.

-gryphon waiths for an directX file-

do you have any programs running in the background ? If si try closing all of them before you start playing. ..

Andrew, what exactly do you mean my attaching that file? gryphon, I always make sure that I am not running additional programs along with games, and that any unnecessary start up progams are active.

Yesterday I was able to exit the game without any problems but I was in too much of a hurry to investigate.

Go to Start => run and typ there dxdiag. On the window that pops up, run the tests on the sound and display/video tab. Once done, go to the first tab and press the Save all info button. Save it as a txt file and attach it to your reply here.

Hmm, does it just show a totally black screen?

Like when you've turned your computer off, but not the screen?

If so, exiting the game might cause your graphics card to crash.

That sometimes happen to me if it's really hot.

I think this is a software error, but I just wanted to inform about this possible explanation.
