i'm gonna buy this game soon because the price is finally right with the Gold Edition

i have some Qs:

why is the game called "Aliens vs. Predator"? shouldn't that be "Alien vs. Predator" or "Aliens vs. Predators" seeing as there are a whole bunch of both species at war, not just all Aliens vs. *one* Predator! that is a very misleading name, and one could even go so far as to say it's false advertising since it implies that one Predator is strong enough to take on the entire Alien race by himself.

how many multiplayer maps are there (including with the Expansion Pack)?

wtf is a PredAlien? is that because an Alien banged a Predator? or was it a Predator who banged an Alien? in either case, how the heck could that happen? why would a Predator stay still and let an Alien bang her, or vice versa? this makes no sense at all. i want an in-depth explanation

I thought it was Alien Vs. Predator? Oh well. I guess it's the names of the two movies. Aliens, the second movie, fits the game better than the other three movies because it's more of an action flick.

A Predalien is a genetic experiment which exploits the best of both the Xenomorph and the Predator. In AvP, they were pretty useless. in fact, they were slow, like the Predator, and poorly armoured, like the Xenomorph. Go figure.

AvP2 looks really good, though. If it's anywhere near as good as AvP, I'd like to get a copy the next time I find one.

AvP2 is pretty cool, I have it, and I like it.

It is called AlienS vs. Predator(no S) because for the most part, the story revolves around just the one predator. It mentions others, and you see a few more, but there are seldom more than 1 or 2 onscreen at once.

On the other hand, there are lots and lots of aliens, all over the place.

i hear in multiplayer that the Predator has to switch been 3 different vision modes to see each type of enemy (Predator, Alien, Marine)

is that true?

if so, wouldn't Predator be the worst race to take in MP since the Alien would require less micro by default and hence can see enemies and avoid or kill them faster? that sounds *really* unbalanced to me

does the PredAlien have the same vision capabilities of the Alien? if so, why would anyone be dumb enough to take the Predator in MP when it is so inferior?

Posted

A Predator has additional to the normal vision mode three special ones. Yeah and it is unbalanced, but mainly because the Marine is usually the victim. (just speaking from own experience)

Posted

yea, preds have an unlimited energy souce so they can stay invisible for a long time and those vision modes you dont really need, but the alien only has one spcial vision mode that is like sonar.

In sp you play with only one Predator for a whole game, last episodes of alien campaign is full of xenomorph "wingmen".

Predator isn't inferior, maybe because of such facts, that disc kills everything with one hit. If alien evades it, it can't evade speargun headshot. Especially predalien, such big thing is a nice shooting duck, tough rather faster.

The "banging", how you call it, can be seen on more parts of sp. First stage of xenomorph's life is a "facehugger", bug which will jump on victim's head and carry the larva into it. Larva will take energy and DNA from victim and then jump out as a chestburster. Most aliens, drones and their lower stage, runners, are from humans, when facehugger attacks predator, the result will be predalien.

Original AvP had about 10 maps. Newest patch enabled alien Queen emerging (after some kills) and driveable exosuit (limited units). I've played it for short time as Predator, with good training of vision systems you are unbeatable with him. Since the server was down last year I wasn't trying to connect again. Does it function again?

Nav: yes, the Predator has three extra vision modes (in addition to visible light/"normal"), but it can see all three races with all three views. The extra view modes simply highlight one type of enemy (thermal, for example, highlights humans, while electromagnetic highlights aliens). The only thing is that you need to be in the correct vision mode in order to target an enemy, so that the disk and energy gun home in on the target. If you're in thermal mode, you can only target humans, and so on.

a total of about 25 to 30 maps are present i think. A predalien is a facehugged predator (you know what a facehugger is right?) in avp2. whereas in avp1 a predalien was made by humans, (they captured some aliens and a predator and made predalien out of it)

Predator has 4 vision modes (1 normal like any human sees, and 3 additional, 1 for each species) The good thing about these visions is that it gives you the ability to use homing weapons against your enemies and it is easy to discern your enemies in the dark. The only problem is that if you are facing multiple enemy species that you'll have to switch. But if you only have on type of enemy (for example marine) then you'll never have to switch and have a great advantage.

predator for the rest is not inferior, though it is a lot less tough than it was in avp1, and it is not a creature of mass destruction, but it is tactical and it's cloaking ability is pretty irritating if you are a marine.

predalien has same abilities as normal alien except that it is tougher, slower, has greater pound range, and cannot headbite an enemy.

I went to a friends house and he started the campaign for the Predator.

He only had the wrist blades, the spear gun and a spear he aquired from another predator a little bit later in the first mission. Do you get more weapons as the game progresses?

And can u make the predators eye lazer thingy turn on ever thats pretty cool.

Out of the three races the predator looks to be the most powerful and dangerous enemy. Also hes the coolest in my book.

What is the predator? if hes from another planet than wouldent he be considered an "alien" too? Confused on how the predator came into the picture.

I've never played the game in multiplayer before, but I really liked the Xenomorph missions in AvP. It was fun being so quick and powerful at close range, and leaping and crawling on walls was great.

Sardaukar Elite: Actually, I believe the Predators are called Yautja. But yes, they are aliens.

The Aliens, are just kinda there, and people stumble accross these really strange unknown creatures by suprise, so they are just dubbed "Aliens" or Xenomorphs, which is a fancy scientific name meaning "Aliens"

The Predators actually come accross the galaxy to hunt for things. That is their main purpose, to hunt, therefore, predators.

how the hell can a Predator be facehugged? they have titanium masks don't they? or at least masks that could not be penetrated. that's BS that a Predator could be facehugged

i hear that in the game facehuggers can even hug your leg and still kill you just by doing that. that's *REALLY* lame

i also hear that all the races are almost the same speed. that is really lame too

i also hear that Runners own in MP and Drones are nearly useless

do you guys agree with this? what is the strongest race in MP and why?

Posted

For me is best Heavy Predator. It has spear and disc, all I need to send any miserable human or xenomorph to burning hell. Regeneration and high jumping is all I need also to survive. My brother prefers Runner, altough it is very bright, laggy marines or predators can't even see him, when he ambushes with that attack jump from roof. I would say it is MUCH faster than any other creature.

Praetorian and Drone are useless, that's for sure. When you are a facehugger, wait rather for Predators ;)

Facehuggers too have acid and can burn through anything

1. not realy, you have to aim for the face, it's not as easy as you might think

2. well alien runner is definetly fastest but overall they are not so much different in speed and i agree that's not too cool, although the alien's pounce ability more than makes up for it.

3. about this i can't say too much. I am a drone player, i like a balanced warrior. Runner is definetly faster, but also very weak, can even die easily to pulse rifle. but i think the speed advantage works best because avp2 has quite a lot of lag online. Predaliens are also pretty good as they have great pounce range and are tough. Preatorians are decent, but they have no pounce and cannot climb, kinda lacking.

strongest race depends on map totally. I find alien to rule in indoor maps, whereas the predator does a lot better in open areas.

the alien has all the weapons always, you do not switch weapons with the alien, as it only has 3. Paws, jaws and tail. And ofcourse pounce. you cannot collect those

marine and predator do collect weapons yes. Predator has all weapons quite early on. Marine is more standard. like in most games

Posted

Yes because like I said in a previous post , I saw the first level for the predator campaign and all he had was his wrist blades, spear gun, and a spear. I hope he gets more.

Posted

Marines are the most hard to play with, but the humans aren't a one man army.

They need to work together with other marines and camp alot.

Because it's fairly useless if you run around with a pulse rifle, seeing as you can be easily killed by a alien or pred.

But still, the lag is a huge con in the game and I'm suprised it's still not fixed.

i bought the game today

my impressions so far:

graphics are fine

voice acting is exceptional - two major thumbs way up for that! i guess it doesn't matter too much tho since your main characters for 2/3 of the game never say anything.

play control is fine too. interface is good. load screens do get quite annoying.

the sound effects are good, but the music sucks very badly. they should have either hired a real composer to do the music, or left music entirely out of the game because the crappy-sounding music really detracts from the experience

i've been having fun on the Mission except for a couple of things i don't get:

what is the code for in the first room with hanging corpses? it's a code for guns in the cargo bays or something, but i did not find any cargo bays that i could open

when you first go outside after the explosion at the start, there are a lot of flying trucks and weird noises. the first time i went across that bridge, i died somehow and i have no idea what hit me because it was never on my screen. what is supposed to be happening there?

i must say that i very much hate the last stretch of the first Marine Mission, after you touch the Hill girl. the aliens chasing you respawn infinitely. i *hate hate hate hate hate hate hate HATE!* any games or parts of games in which the enemies have infinite respawn but you have limited health and limited ammo. someone needs to get it through developers' thick skulls that infinite respawn is *NEVER* fun!!! i sincerely hope that there are no other parts of the game which have infinite respawn. i did this segment about 15 times. then i got fed-up and read a walkthru. unfortunately, the walkthru was written by a retard, so it was mostly useless. i decided to experiment and ended up beating that infinite respawn stretch by bunnyhopping all the way home - it worked the first time i did it. that was really lame. i hate when games force me to be lame with unreasonable gameplay impediments like this

btw, someone please explain how the Marine motion sensor works. sometimes i hear clicks, and sometimes i hear beeps from the motion sensor. what does a click mean? what does a beep mean? and how the heck am i supposed to *orient* myself using the motion sensor since it does not show where *you* are in relation to the blips on the radar?
