There has been some treads of different bands here,so I was wondering, espesially since there are a lot of ppl here from Canada And USA.IS there anyone out there who ever heard of,and like The Canadian Power Rock trio RUSH?

I must say that I`m hooked,really hooked,it`nearly an obsession.If I don`t get my daily dose of RUSH

I really loved Rush up until the album Presto. After that there music just changed too much for me. I grew up listening to Rush. The first album I heard of theirs was Farewell To Kings and boy was that an awesome album. I have only seen the band in concert once, during the Presto tour, and they are the best band I have seen in concert ever. Neil Pert's drum solo is quite awesome.

Rush sucks. I can't stand Geddy Lee's voice. He is a Robert Plant-wannabe. the only problem is, Lee's voice sounds *HORRIBLE* and Robert Plant's voice is amazing. Geddy Lee sounds like a dying animal being horribly tortured. Ugh! it boggles my mind how anyone can listen to his voice and not cringe.

as well, their lyrics are just as repugnant. the average grade 3 special ed student could write better lyrics than Rush.

the only reason they even get *any* press at all is because they are Canadian, and the CRTC dictates that radio must play a large portion of Candian content. this results in *ANY* noise pollution getting on the radio, no matter how horrendous it sounds. because as long as it's *Canadian* noise polllution, it still meets the radio stations' quotas. ::)

Well they don't play a lot of new Rush music here in the States. On the stations I listen to, I guess it would be termed an oldies station, they play a lot of the old Rush hits like "Red Barchetta", "Closer to the Heart", "Tom Sawyer", and "YYZ". To say that Rush's lyrics are simplistic is quite silly in my opinion. A lot of Rush songs have deep philisophical meaning and are works of poetry in their own right. I will admit that Geddy Lee does not have the best singing voice, but he is still very good and his singing actually fits the Rush instrumental sound. I think his voice is very similar to the lead singer of Triumph (another Canadian band. Must be a Canada thing). The other great thing about Rush is that all of the members are masters of the instruments they play. They are a highly skilled group of musicians. Like I said I don't like the direction that their music has taken in the last 10 years. They have to be doing something right to still be releasing new albums after 25+ years in the business.

Triumph is a truly great band. i had no idea they were Canadian. that's cool. "Fight the Good Fight", "Lay it on the Line" - that's some of the best rock ever.

comparing Geddy Lee's voice to the voice of the Triumph guy is crazy. the Triumph guy has a great voice. Plant-esque in a good way.

Lee has a Plant-esque voice in a twisted, mutilated, always-terrible-sounding way.

btw, here's an example of your "poetic" lyrics by Rush. i think it proves to everyone that what i said about a third grade special ed'er holds true. LOL

"Closer To The Heart"

And the men who hold high places

Must be the ones who start

To mold a new reality

Closer to the heart

Closer to the heart

The blacksmith and the artist

Reflect it in their art

They forge their creativity

Closer to the heart

Closer to the heart

Philosophers and ploughmen

Each must know his part

To sow a new mentality

Closer to the heart

Closer to the heart

You can be the captain

I will draw the chart

Sailing into destiny

Closer to the heart

To each his own I always say. I think Rush is one of the more intelligent bands of the 1970's - 1980's. I don't listen to their new stuff, but I am guessing it is still of high quality (not just to my liking) even today. Those lyrics you quoted are some of the more simplistic of Rush songs. It is one of the more popular Rush songs probably because of this simplicity.

I`ll agree with number 6,not the best voice in the class, but it fit right in.I also agree as for the lyrics matter. One thing is clearly tho:they have been makin`albums since 1973,and each albums has been different. The topic has been different on each albums as for the lyric matter. If you are able to understand the underlying meaning of some of the lyrics, you will see that there are deeper meanings in them.Have u ever tried to analyse " Closer to the heart " ? An rough analyse could be like this e.g:

If our gouverment or the ones who sit the driver seat don`t show the way to run things with peace and love, who shall?

Our builders and artist mold the outlook of things, the place were u live in Nav,for that matter.

Even from the start of philosophical thinking they have told us different ways of doing things or think for that matter maybye, hehe. But it comes with some kind of responsebility. As for the last lines,we actually don`t know whats beyond the moon ::)So ....It all depends on the eyes and mind that read them, just like a book.

Nav,if u don`t like them,it`s fine by me,it shows once again that meanings are like the butt, seperated(different),and thank God or someone for that.

I think the milestones in the chapter of RUSH are;

2112

Moving Pictures

Hemispheres

Power Windows

Presto

As for Mr.Lee hes the only musician who has been recieving prices for hes bass playing and when hes behind hes keyboards.
