  1. Goal: Die Mauer wird in drei Jahren fallen! Brandenburg blut auf!

  2. Goal: Rebirth after the second world war - from devastation to the most successful country in the Communist Block.
Author's Comments: This is a large scenario (500x472) as befits a relatively large and complex country and we've done our best to reproduce it as well as possible.
The country divides naturally into several bands. The northernmost one with its many post-glacial lakes is the least developed. By contrast, the band below is highly developed agriculturally (most farming is mixed with some regional variations). Further south lie substantial mineral deposits with the largest coalfield in Europe and much industrialization. Beyond that are the Carpathian Mountains of which the Tatra are best known.
When Poland gained independence in 1918 the railway system was rebuilt and several trunk lines were established, notably between the Silesian coalfield and the northern ports; and between Warsaw and the cities of Krakow and Poznan. After the devastation of World War II the system was rebuilt again. Now part of the Communist Block, much traffic was long distance. Your objective is to rebuild the system, establish some of these long distance routes, and serve the country at large.
The state railway is called the Polskie Koleye Panstwowe (Polish State Railways) or PKP for short. Because there were so many political changes during the 20th century we have tried to use the Polish names and spelling as they were at the time. Bear in mind that after WWII areas to the West were taken from Germany, while areas to the East were taken by Russia as part of what became the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).
The Communist economy was controlled centrally so you won't find the exaggerated boom and bust cycles of many Capitalist economies. Nor will you have any competitors, you will be in charge of a state monopoly. On the other hand, you won't be able to sell shares or raise money through bonds - you will have to fund the railway through revenue and bonuses when you meet government quotas. Yes, the Communist state was very keen on quotas!

  3. Goal: Centurion. Expand our empire using this new iron chariot. Let all railroads lead to Rome.
Author's Comments: Adapted for TSC from the original RT2 map "SPQR.map".
    Changes:
    1) Frequency - set to "Monthly (Beginning)" instead of "Scenario"
    2) checked capitalization on triggers
    3) changed name on "Zauces" territory to "Carthage"
    4) trigger - checked button for "Single Player"
Note that these changes are necessary to run this type of map (letting the player choose which country to start in) in TSC... it runs fine as originally set up in RT2.
Everything else is unchanged from the original.
Thanks to Ronald Albrecht for pointing out the problems running this one in TSC.

  4. Goal: Can you stand the competition here on the flat Sugar Isles of Denmark?
Author's Comments: This is a map of my home Island, Lolland, and it's sister island, Falster, also known as the sugar isles.
In real life, I think the measures are something like: 150*80 km. But this is only a guess. I have stuffed so many factories into the cities, since even a little bakery counts, when we are talking maps of these real size!
The economic situation of the isles at present isn't good at all, taken in consideration, that it is in Denmark. But I haven't got that into the game, since a good railway can do a lot to the economy itself!

  5. Goal: The Euro is in, but all track have been ripped up, make a name for yourself in the new millenium, build a rail empire and win fame for yourself.

  6. Goal: (Map #1) The year is 1953, and this is the first year of the Norwegian Railroad Company. You have to build the railroad just like it was built in real life. So this single game campaign is a reconstruction of NSB.
(Map #2) The year is 1921. Trondheim has been connected to the southern railroad. Now its up to you to build the northern railroad.
(Map #3) The year is 1962. The northern railroad has been built. All further plans have been canceled. Only you can do something about it! Complete the last part, and connect Kirkenes to the railroad.
(Map #4) The year is 1952. 8 years earlier 2 A-Bombs were dropped over Japan. Something terrible happened with the atmosphere in these days, and the water has begun to flow. The 3rd World War has also just started!
Author's Comments: This is a single map/campaign, and it is a reconstruction of the Norwegian railroad(NSB). Part 1 its the southern part of Norway(1853-1950). You have to build up the railroad step by step, as it was done in the old days. You will receive new orders each time a "real" connection has been made.
Part two its the middle part of Norway(Northern railroad (1921-1962). You have to build the northern railroad, step by step in the same way you did with the southern part. Part three(1963-2014) its the northern part of Norway.
This part was planned, but the government canceled it, because it was of leak of money, and the because of the population in the area. So the track was never build...
And the challenge to you its to complete their old plan, and make the people happy!
The last map, world war three leads you throw a new world war. The atmosphere its destroyed, so you have to fight against the water, and the enemy. Its a hard map to beat. You will lose trains before you even knows about it, and if you failure to deliver the limit cargo one year, the water will raise! I have added a complete new history into that map.
So its up to you now, to manage that the human race will survive.
I have made all the maps difficult to win. But it is a rank anyway:
Part one its the easiest map to win. Map to difficult, and map three and four its almost impossible to win.
But they are all difficult maps, so you have much to do in the future.
Many historic happenings has been added, and many challenge to.

  7. Author's Comments: This is my first attempt at a map for Railroad Tycoon II, and whilst it has been a fair bit of work I have enjoyed creating and testing this map.
This map is probably best used as a multi-player map as the computer players do not seem to get the hang of buying access rights to allow them to build railways to the big cities.
Let me know how you get on, and if anyone wants to change the terrain (hills and mountains), or possibly alter the rivers, to make them that little bit more correct for the geography of the two islands let me know.

  9. Goal: This is a map of Central Scotland. Featuring Many villages & towns including the famous U.F.O. Triangle (Bonnybridge, Falkirk and Slamannan.)
Author's Comments: Scenario "central Scotland v2.2.mp2" (adapted from the RT2 map by Neil Harrison)
    Goals:

  10. Goal: 1917. Europe is at war. In Russia, the regime of the Tsar is about to be overthrown.
Lenin, the leader of the Bolsheviki, is looking for a way to St. Petersburg from his Zurich exile.
Author's Comments: The human player's company owns one train, and no track. The only countries for which you will initially have train access rights are Switzerland and Germany. You start your train at Zurich. In order to get to St. Petersburg, you will have to meet various (historical or invented) persons in several European cities. They will provide you with help and information. Eventually, you will gain access to other countries, depending on whom you talked to and what route they recommended. Gold should be easily attainable with different strategies and routes.
There are gaps in the track between the Russian railway system and those of Germany and Austria. These gaps stand for the need to switch the equipment from standard- to broad gauge when traveling into Russia. In addition to that, the frontline between Russian and Axis forces in WW I interrupted the railway connections.
When you get nearer to that front, you will be granted the right to fill the gap by building the missing track, if you have talked to the right people along the way.
Be warned that some events offer choices that will lead you onto a wrong trace. You might even find yourself prematurely loosing the game. There are also some random events that might cost you the gold. I tried to build some features of a role-playing adventure into this scenario. Feel free to change events in the editor if you do not like that.

  13. Goal: A small railroad company in Northern Germany lives off the transportation of sugar-beets in Fall - it's all a matter of logistics.
Author's Comments: You can find some remarks on the background of this scenario in the "briefing".
For a strategy, remember that people in the countryside help each other, even if that does not pay off immediately.

  14. Goal: The new world order's first major project of the millennium. Exploit the floor of the Black Sea. Seemed a good idea at the time.
Author's Comments: The Black Sea has been drained. Now with your meager investment you must dominate the railroad industry.
Yes, you only start with 75k of investment. The computer players get a jump on you. Now you must come back.

  15. Goal: Italy's landscape is very varied. Develop the main railway lines and connect Italy to the other nations through the Alps passes.
Author's Comments: We began Italy.map on the 3rd of January 1999. One on PC and the other on the atlas. We could work only at the weekends and... we didn't know it would take so much time!
We used a 200 factor for elevating the mountains: that's the reason why you see very high mountains, and why we spend so much time in smoothing terrain! It will be very difficult to make the railways reach the Alps passes without overcoming a 2% slope! In fact in the past in the Alps a lot of the most long tunnels in the world were excavated.
We introduced the most important cities of Italy and of the near nations, respecting the real industrial configuration. You may find that there are too many cities, but the criterion we used was to place all of the Italian province chief towns according to this rule:
    Population = <25000 --> Size = Village
    Population = <50000 --> Size = Town
    Population = <200000 --> Size = City
    Population = <1000000 --> Size = Metropolis
    Population = >1000000 --> Size = Megalopolis
Moreover we have enlarged many valleys in order to make the main railway lines pass; for this reason you can see that the nation boundaries aren't very precise.
If you find serious problems in connecting two cities following a real path, please inform us. If you like to change some idea about Italy.map and RT2 in general, please contact us.
We hope you enjoy Italy. Many people in the world would like to visit Italy: for them this map gives the occasion to see a simplified Italian landscape: from the snow on the Alps, to the cactus in Sicilia!
We thank Slap for his advices, and all the RT2 fans who choose this map to play with.

  16. Goal: Build a streetcar network in the city of Bremen!
Author's Comments: The aim in this map is to build a streetcar network in the city of Bremen, Germany, at the beginning of the 20th century. The map represents the geography of that place more or less accurately.

  17. Goal: Germany continues to grow in economic importance. This means business for you.
    Author's Comments: Scenario "germany.mp2" (Germany) - fixes
    Changes:

    2) fixed goals to reflect difficulty choice
    3) fixed various reserve cells --- Update: various reserve cell fixes

  18. Goal: Köln, Rheinland, Eifel und Bergisches Land. Bringen Sie kölsche Erzeugnisse ins Umland!
Author's Comments: The 'Rheinland' - Map is located around Cologne (Germany) and reflects no real geographical details because I could not get an elevation model or a greyscale map which represent this region. So I drew the hills having some looks at a normal map (and by remembering some of the geographical essentials - I spent most of my life in the 'Rheinland'). The scenario is based on one of the most famous products from Cologne - the beer called 'Koelsch' - and on a world-known car-producer, which has a factory in Cologne. I think it is quite easy to win gold - try it!

  19. Goal: After your resounding success last year running the Santa Claus Express for Santa, he has a new challenge for you! Can you prove the ability of the iron horse to replace the reindeer in their homeland?
Author's Comments: As a result of your phenomenal success last year running the Santa Claus Express for Santa, he has decided to try an experiment to determine if railways can do the job that his trusted reindeer have been doing so long, get out those Christmas deliveries.
Santa has decided that one night is not enough to prove the worth of the railway, so it will be your job to run the railway efficiently and speedily to ensure that the deliveries of the TWELVE Days of Christmas are met.
And where better to do it than in the land of the reindeer, Norway!
You will be given notice on each day of the Twelve Days of Christmas the required delivery for that day and where the delivery is to take place. To be successful, you must make the delivery before the end of that day or it will not be counted.
Don't fall behind or Santa will have to call in his reindeer!
And don't sit around twiddling your reins between deliveries either, you have a railroad to run!

  20. Goal: Die Schweiz war und ist ein beliebtes Urlaubsziel. Erobern Sie für den Tourismus die schweizer Alpen und lassen Sie sich dann am Genfer See nieder.
Author's Comments: Build a free railway network.
There's is only a small scenario in German language.
Attention: A lot of towns have old German names from a old Map (1930)!
P.S. As in all my maps I made all the industries and resources are based on real economic data.

  21. Goal: Nun sind sSie in der Lombardei. Hier haben sie eine prachtige Industriezone mit hohem touristischem Wert vor sich. Erschliessen sie das bisher bauerliche Land und nehmen sie damit an der einigung Italiens teil.
Author's Comments: Lombardia is a beautiful country in Italy. Old cities, good food, a beautiful countryside and high technology, industies (ugly, very sad to see). Build a railway network. There's no scenario.

  22. Goal: Steam rules in England till after the war. Can you make it work?
Author's Comments: This is a reworked map of England that was included on the TSC CD. I've changed it so that only steam locomotives are available till the end of WW2. I found that due to the high cost of late era steam engines and the associated high cost of maintenance and fuel as well as unreliability issues I avoided the use of many of these engines when playing any map in this time period. This map will force you to use steam till 1946. I tweaked many of the costs associated with steam, but in 1946 you will still be required to make a critical decision- stay with steam or electrify. I've also modified the goals slightly and made other minor changes. I hope you find this an enjoyable scenario. I would like to thank DickK, JSS and Steve for testing this scenario and for their comments and suggestions.

  23. Goal: Can you establish yourself as a captain of industry and gain elevation to the peerage during Queen Victoria's Reign?
Author's Comments: This map is an altered version of the Britain map, adjusted mainly for local knowledge.
Several things should be pointed out:
Building costs begin much higher than normal to reflect high land costs.
Borrowing will be difficult to start with as railways are still a new thing.
Because railways in Britain use good use of viaducts and cuts to level rail gradients, traction is better. This also contributes to the costs above.

Author's Comments: Feel free to build a railroad network in the beautiful Hungarian country. It is an open end game with historic informations. Notice, that a lot of cities has old names (very different from modern names). This names stem from old maps of 1850/1910 and from the Ungarische Ethnographische Gesellschaft, Budapest, 1997. I have the position of the industries from different publications and from my own notice. The Newsletters are in German language. It is important to know, that millions of Germans lived in this country since 1.200 years. A lot of cities are founded by Bavarians in this early times; like denburg, Steinamanger, Fnfkirchen (in 796), Gns, Wei§brunn, etc. The old Roman province Pannonia was a part of Bavaria (the Grenzmark), before the Hungarian Warriors arrived in Central Europe and attacked the German Empire. Today, Pannonia is a part of Hungaria.
A lot of Germans emigrated to Hungaria after the Turks lost this country (over 270 years the Hungarians must fight again or live with the Turkish invaders), because millions of Hungarians are dead after this long war. Most villages are destroyed and there wasn't enough work force to rebuild the country. A lot of villages (like the village Ktsching in 1730 near the Lake Plattensee) are founded by German settlers from Hessen.
Today, the most Germans in Hungary can not any longer speak German, because on the end of the 19. century and during the communism, the state repressed the language minorities (Czechs, Croatians and others too). However till this day in all towns and villages (Hungarian name ãPusztaÒ) you will find people with German surnames. It is interesting to know, that the first and the last Hungarian Queen was a Bavarian princess.
Like in all my maps, industries and woods are on the right place. Surely, not all industries worked on the same times but I mean, that is no problem for a game!

  25. Goal: London Midland & Scottish Railway, 1923.
Author's Comments: The London Midland & Scottish was a shotgun marriage, compelled by the government, after World War One. There were two main constituents, (along with their Scottish partners). They were the London & North-Western, (LNWR), based at Crewe; and the Midland Railway, based at Derby. They were serious rivals before amalgamation, and no love was lost after the merger. The Midland won the battle for the soul of the company, and Midland policies and practices were imposed on the other divisions of the LMS. The small-engine policy, (4-4-0's, & lots of double-heading) was one visible sign of this "Midlandisation". Every British railway used very basic 0-6-0s for goods trains; and the Midland saw no reason to change.
The LMS suffered as a result of this internal strife; and it was not until the mid-thirties that the company developed a style and character that was all its own. This LMS practice & style was very distinctive, and had a lasting influence. The Second World War put a stop to all forward progress however, and once that was won, Government intervened again. The LMS, and all the other companies, were nationalised to create British Railways. But that's another story....
The LNWR was basically London-Birmingham-Crewe-Carlisle. North of there the Caledonian Railway took over to Glasgow. The LNWR also had lines to South Wales, and Holyhead, and had absorbed the Lancashire & Yorkshire company in 1922, just before the LMS was created.
The Midland Way was London-Derby-Settle-Carlisle, and thence the Glasgow & South-Western Rly, via Dumfries. It had lines to Bournemouth, and Morcambe, and a (joint) line to Norwich. The Midland mainline from Birmingham to Bristol was shared with the GWR; hence the Iron Duke trundling up and down that section.
The train routings in the scenario are very much divided into LNWR & MR halves. For simplicity, the Midlands' London terminus is no longer St Pancras, but Euston. Well, one of them had to go! There is only one Glasgow station; but there are three stations in the Leeds area. The lines in Lancashire are set up to need sorting out. This is meant to reflect the takeover of the L&Y in 1921. Another problem for the enthusiastic student!
This scenario used RLs Britain 1830 map as a starting point. (A very good scenario: Respect!). The idea for the LMS one sprang from a desire to model a real historical situation; and a desire to play a game with victory conditions different from the usual "personal wealth/start from scratch/random industry" targets. I found that I had to compromise both ideals, but I didn't know owt when I started; and I am quite pleased with the outcome. It is still running trains, but here you take over a difficult situation. And it is recognizably the LMS.
It is a scenario for those who like to study every train schedule closely. Many people do not, for it is easy to get bogged down in the detail; and the first thing a computer game should be, is fun. So I am worried that the scenario might be too much like hard work. The other big problem is controlling costs. These escalate as engines get older. There's a fine balance between getting the company profitable, and never making money. I need other players to tell me if the balance is right. Are there too many problems to solve? It's not supposed to be a torture puzzle.
I would appreciate any feedback from any players about how the scenario plays. I know my favourite way of doing things: will it play fair for other peoples' style of play? And if anyone has the urge to take this scenario further, and develop/improve it themselves, then by all means do.
