I'm thinking of shifting my OS to Windows XP, and I need help with finding updated and correct drivers for my devices. I know I'll probably have to update my sound drivers, and I'll definitely need to update my modem drivers.

Is there a way I can find what exact devices I'm using and post them here so I could get help with finding correct XP version drivers for them (if that's not too much :-)?

I'm currently running Windows 98.

XP may already have the newest drivers for your modem and sound card since they don't get upgraded too often. Doesn't Emperor come with a program that lists your devices?

You mean the EaSy diagnostic program?

When I tried my modem under XP before, it just wouldn't work. So I figure I have to go and get the latest drivers for them somewhere... :-

Same as Gobalopper mentioned, XP most likely will have the drivers it needs. Although if you'd like to be shure, feel free to posts the details of any device your doubt about and we'll have a look at the latest drivers.

Well ok, for starters, I have a Lucent Win modem (that's what it says in the Device Manager), and in the Audio properties, it says :SiS 7012(d800). The sound didn't work under XP the last time I tried.

Err, there are lots of drivers under 'Lucent Win Modem'. Is there any way I can determine which driver I should download? How do I find out what kind of Lucent Win Modem I have (besides knowing it's 56k :P).

Ok here, I am reporting to you from Windows XP. ;) The sound drivers for XP worked perfectly, no problems there. Thanks for that. :) None of the modem drivers I downloaded worked though, and I ended up kinda stumbling across the solution.

I simply re-installed the old modem drivers from my original driver CD, and directed the device to use the drivers. However I had to delete the hardware device (modem) from the system, and completely re-install it in order for this to work. Strange. :- :P

Then when I go to play Generals, I just end up 'surrendering' in a skirmish game against the comp. Total re-installation of the game fixed the problem.

Then when I went to see if Emperor worked, it crashed to desktop on loading...

Once again, a total re-install of the software fixed it up quickly.

Thanks for the links to the drivers, they were very useful. ;D

If I have any problems under this new OS, you'll be the first to know. ;)

When i installed xp, there were no standard drivers that were functional for my modem...

so what did i do? I opened the computer, looked on the soundcard and wrote down the letters and numbers. (rwd56 or something, can't remember, will be different for your computer) searched with that on the internet and found drivers for my modem for xp.

I think that should work. Do you have any idea what brand you have?
