Same thing happened to me a year a go or so (constantly I mean)

But then over time it just did not occur no more.

Just keep trying.

Also ... do You have Renegade... ? ;)

Very good in that case.

I wont and can't guarantee that Your problem will be entirelly fixed as mine (seamingly) has been.

While handshaking, as soon as You see the symbols in both corner of the screen stop moving, then hit ESC immediately. Though You'll not be able to complete the handshake, at least it saves the trouble of re-booting.

Keep an eye out for those symbols. As soon as they stop moving - hit ESC. If You wait too long then it crashes even more up.

Just my 2 cents.

this is a WOL problem. it happens to me all the time when i host.

i'd say it happens in at least 1/5 of the times that i host. it has nothing to do with your computer. WOL is buggily-coded and unfortunately the problem is on their end and until they fix it (which will be never) you're stuck having to reboot just like me.

tho there are actually 2 similar issues here: one bug causes the system to freeze due to an application error in which case you must reboot.

the other occurs if one of the players DCs after the handshake happens and before the gameloading screen is finished. in that case you have to restart Emperor. no way around it.

This can happen for a number of reasons but it's essentially caused by a lack of RAM. First, don't spend too long in the game lobbies. If you have to, quit emp and restart, or maybe even restart your whole computer. This usually seems to help.

Apart from that, there isn't much else you can do aside from upgrading your computer.

Thx all.Ace I think I have enough RAM,640mb(pc2700 ddr)and before going online I always shut down other programs, close everything in my system tray, run my free ram program and have every ram possible with me online. When playing against 7 AI I have checked how many ram still free,it difference from 200-290mb,but it is "good to see I`m not the only one with the problem.By the way, there are 3-4 player names that cause it to happend tho.

RAM is not the issue at all.

Emperor was indeed the first game, as I recall, on my new PC. And my new PC is an Athlon XP 1.33 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 64 MB GeForce 2 MX 400.

And STILL I had the problem. So RAM doesn't involve this issue diddley squat.
