(*SPOILERS FROM THE BOOK/MOVIE*)

I haven't read Phillip K. Dick's amazing book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep in about a year, nor have I seen the similarly amazing Blade Runner movie lately, so I have a question regarding the Andys/Replicants.

Why were companies (e.g. the Rosen Corporation) trying to make the Andys as human-like as possible? Weren't they just used for mining and menial tasks in the cities of Mars? And it was illegal for a human to... erm... you know... do it with them. I see no reason for the Nuxus6 models and other realistic Andys.

In AI it was because of the strict reproduction laws (families only allowed one child) and they were also used in other profesions, such as prostitues, which required them to be human like in appearance.

AI is also based on do androids dream of electric sheep?

No, it was against the law for human-android relations (it, as I referred to it).

I thought AI was based on Pinnochio? It doesn't bear a whole lot of resemblance to DADoES, from what I know of it. Perhaps you're thinking of one of these movies:

-Minority Report (One thumb up)

-Imposter (Two thumbs up, and a toe up for a bonus)

-Screamers (Two thumbs up)
