Arokh what you say is true but it isn't safe and its WAY harder than more exercise and healthier food. Your body is a dynamic equalibrium and if that is swayed either way, there are consequences. It's all about burning more calories than you use. That's what it all comes down to. What would you rather have; no exercise and forcing yourself to eat WAY less than during previous times, or light to moderate exercise done right to help you actually burn the calories you consume. Diet is still important, but if you don't have enough of a balanced body muscle-to-fat wise, you don't have a starting platform to begin losing weight. Also, diet alone will set you into a catabolic state where you're not only burning fat tissue but muscle tissue as well. Doing strength training as well as light cardio will help you to build up the muscles in your body, which intern (very important) increases your metabolism (the rate at which you burn calories). The strength training is also good for burning calories, but light cardio-type workouts (running, cycling, staircliming etc) will get your heart rate up, keeping your muscles going so they don't drop into a state of catabolism allowing your body to draw its energy from fat deposits. And that's really all it's about, losing fat. You don't want to lose the muscle too. Many 'gravitationally disadvantaged' people (as Dj calls them) have a good chunk of muscle underneath their layers of fat, and it is an essential tool ridding yourself of those darn fat cells.

As for diet; for men especially, of the three types of food particles you can eat, (protein, carbohydrates and fat) eat WAY more protein and less fat. Carbs can stay the same if you are active, or decrease slowly and slightly if you are not. Carbs are wierd with weight loss sometimes. On one hand, if you exercise a lot they're efficient at giving you energy. On the other hand, if you don't use that energy, they contribute greatly to caloric surplus and can screw you over.

Am I making any sense?

"ommon terminology like benchpress, squat, or sets, reps etc"

As an exercise, all this muscle building is not very efficient so many times because it will

1- build minly the visible muscles while little ones as important

2- will give power (which is visible) instead of endurance

Some time ago (now, i don't know: less exercise) I may be able to run 10km on a running field without stopping. I never had that much big muscles. I saw a martial art teacher: he looked like the guy next door but when he was starting a training session, it was rock and roll and everyone except him will be dead. Some in the group were training, some even playing soccer regularly and so on!

Best sport? Swimming, but some others are very good too. I have some doctors in my family and they'll all say that training rooms aren't extraordinary (row-boat is a complete exercise though, as swimming).

Yup.Swimming is actually the best sport around. If you can swim that is :)

Don't try heroics and go too many laps.Try starting at the shallower depth area and just swim 3 laps to start and stop when you really feel fatigue :)
