We all know that oil and natural gas will run out eventually, and even before that we run out of sources that provide more energy then they cost. Solar and windpower are nice, but they can only be a supplement to other power plants, not a replacement. Nuclear power anyone? Seriously, existing plants are already relatively "safe" and will be developed futher to minimise risks. Incidents like Three Mile Island and Tsjernobyl aren't very pleasant, but hey, nothing's perfect. And provided that we can safely store the nuclear waste it's better for the environment then oil or coal. Normally toxic waste would remain life threatening for 10,000 years, but with present day technology we can decrease that time to a measly 500 years. At any rate we're forced to use nuclear fission until we get something better, like fusion power. What do you guys think?

Well, i do embrace nuclear power until we can find something better. There is a chance that it will explode and the result is catastrophic. Nonetheless i think that it is a very good power source and should use it.

However if we can find something better, i'd suggest that we would use that.

Nuclear power is safe enough and I think that the first spacecrafts will have nuclear engines. The dump? We could send it directly into the sun.

Fission is almost *perfectly* safe and environmentally friendly - if it is run properly.

NB: It takes 6 seconds to shut down a nuclear reactor.

At Chernobyl, the boron control rods were removed, hence this was not possible - a terminally stupid decision.

Magnox reactors are such that the hotter they get, the slower reactions progress, and so the slower they get hotter.

Fusion wont happen yet, and i recomend devloping it on the moon, acidents happen....

Fission is the way to go for now.

On a personal note my step father worked at cook nucular plant up in michigan its prety cool hehe :)
