It should really be written Eutopia. Have you heard of a dystopia? dus (duV) means 'bad'. u- as a prefix other than to mean eu has no meaning. un- means 'not', if that's what you're thinking of.

Oh ok, that clears it up a bit. My dictionary says u- means no, and topia (from topos) means place. *shrug*

Ah. I see where it's coming from, now. ou means not - thought I've never heard of it being used as a prefix. I think it is probably ambiguous (else why not use Atopia or Achoria), unless the author of the book has written his intentional meaning.

The problems only come when people don't transcribe the greek well into English... the greeks had no effort making up new names.

They kept fighting among themselves 'cause they had different philosophies: Spartans - highly militaristic, Athenians - highly democratic, others - monarchy, autocratic and so on...
