I think it would be treason because you fight for Saddam, and then you do something against him or his country. Loyalty or not, he would be tried for treason.

I think it would be, but with no one to prosecute it, then you get off scott-free. Unless you build a government that prosecutes treason, then you're screwed.

It would be treason in the past tense, that is "The current ruler committed treason against the Shaka Republic, by taking it over." He'd still be guilty of treason against the past country, but not the current country. Again, IMO.

Sorry I meant people who are working to overthrow that leader. Would the people of any country that are ruled by a dictatorship and are working to overthrow it be considered to be commiting treason?

I think there is a fairly thin line in cases like that. I guess it would depend on who the people consider to be the leader. For example if a group is ousted from power but are still alive either outside the country or holding power over a small portion of it is it still treason to try to regain that power?

I think treason has no absolute definition like other acts like murder, stealing or adultery has. It depends just on betrayed state or regime, how it deals with traitors.
