TMA_1
It seems that in the imperium, the "civilized" populous of the Dune universe seem to be pretty inactive in their faith system. They almost look upon the Orange Catholic Bible as a system of morals. Seems that msot of them dont believe in God and that he "created the universe for man to inhabit and control", as the appendix mentions. Notice this at all anybody? It seems that the unified religion actually helped in homogenizing people's faiths and making them less important in everyday life.
Dunenewt
So do the Buddislamic people not count as civilised?
TMA_1
It seems that those who follow not only the OCB but other docterns are looked upon as fanatics, and it is usually true. Those who are ultra religious seem to form their own seperate communities and from what Ican see, are stigmatized for it.
Dunenewt
The OCB is follwed devoutly by a few people like Lady Helena
TMA_1
true, but usually to use it as a protection against the great convention, they have to be careful and put on a mask of religion so that they arent attacked for their technological advances. Vanguard3000
Helena, the way I see things, was very petty, and used the OCB to fuel her hate for the Ixians. Sure, she may have been religious, but one of the main things in the OCB is "Thou shalt not make a mchine in the likeness of man." Helena, of House Richese, used this as an excuse for disliking her House's competition: Ix.

Anathema
Who knows what Helena really believed? You can only guess through interpretation. She sure had reason to hate Ix since she was from Richese, but maybe she just told herself that they were evil because of their machines. Telling yourself sometimes actually works convincing. I doubt though, that she was really religious, seeing as how she had her husband killed just like that.I did always wonder if the Richesians never touched the more controversial areas of technology, namely AI, because of actual belief in the OC bible or just because they did not have the technology.
