I just got Generals last night, installed it and tada, worked great and I was playing it for about 3 hours.

So when I wake up and want to play today I try to connect to the internet to talk to a few people before I go skirmish and get "Your modem is not working properly or is already in use. If it is already in use, please close the connectin, and then try again. If you have a external modem, check to make sure it is not turned on.

If this error persists, call customer support at 1-877-635-7019."

Now I dont have a external modem, nor was it connected, heck I'm using my laptop on the same line right now that I'd use it for my CPU. Any help?

Problem Two: C&C Generals

So anyways, I install Generals and want to play it again today, I start it up and everything is good until I get to the main page, it has 000000's for every title, like single player is like 00000 0000, along with everything else, then when I finally get lucky and get into Skirmish it gives me all these Korean symbols or Chinese, whatever it may be! ???

So I try un-installing it but repair the game like the tech support read me said, and once thats done and I try to install it again it says type in your cd-key, which I do and press enter or ok, and it gets me right back where you click next to enter your cd-key, so it'ss going in circles! :-.

Please, I really, really dont know what to do, and I'd rather not call Tech Support for the modem issuse, so PLZ help me....

I have not seen this error before. It sounds like a corrupt file or something like that. I would uninstall the game again and then go and make sure the directory where you had generals installed is gone. If it is still there delete the directory completely (only after uninstalling!) I would then reboot your computer and then reinstall the game. You could also have a defective disk. I had problems installing a game once, Warlords Battlecry II, and I took the game back for a replacement and it worked fine.

Well.....GREAT news....I send my computer to the repair guy 5 days ago, he says it'll take 1-4 hours....And FIVE days later he calls me when I'm about ready to hurt him because hes taking so long and says "Sorry man, we've got so many corrupt files we're gonna have to reformat and your gonna lose everything, but on a HIGHER note it'll be like having a nnneww computerrrr."

I don't know what I did wrong either! The last time I sent it for a clean-up and a ram upgrade they checked and cleaned my drives out and put Norton back on it. Now, when I did download new files I always had norton check them and I downloaded few. Also, he mentioned something about it can happen a lot from re-installing/installing new programs..Thing is I barley do that..

There is nothing wrong with installing/re-installing software. The worst thing that can happen is a fragmented drive which can be easily fixed by defragmenting the drive or formatting the drive (Which is the solution this time from your "Repair Guy"). I have never had the problems with games that a lot of people here seem to have. I think it really comes down to the hardware in your system and having the correct software installed. Every time you install a new piece of software on your system you should be thinking "Do I really need this new piece of software?" If the answer is "Yes", then you need to make sure that new piece of software did not break any of your previously working games. When you add a new game to your system and it does not work you then need to figure out if the problem is your hardware or one of the unique software programs you have added to your system. It seems like a lot of people lately are having problems with corrupted files on their systems and the only practical solution for this is usually a format and resintall of all software. There are too many possibilities to figure out which file(s) are corrupted to do a simple repair. If you were getting some kind of error message or the program in question generated a log file of some kind we could probably figure out the culprit and not have to do a format.
