Gobalopper Posted August 23, 2001 Posted August 23, 2001 I don't think it is a problem with Sound Blaster cards. I believe it has something to do with motherboards again, like the VIA issue.[This message has been edited by Gobalopper (edited 08-23-2001).]
Guest nine12 Posted August 23, 2001 Posted August 23, 2001 Nyar: Just an update, they recommended installing newer Sound Card Drivers, and I did. Nothing changed.
Nyarlathotep Posted August 24, 2001 Author Posted August 24, 2001 kiltor2, did the 1.04 drivers work for you ?Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted August 24, 2001 Author Posted August 24, 2001 Kinglowie, take a close look at Jeromeku's prob. He's also runing win2000. Maybe the solution that worked for him, will work for you as well.Nyar...
Guest kiltor2 Posted August 24, 2001 Posted August 24, 2001 Nylar,It seems to be working better I have not played enough to get a lockup yet. I plan on playing some over the weekend...will let you know but thanks very much for your helpKiltor2
Nyarlathotep Posted August 24, 2001 Author Posted August 24, 2001 btw, I've checked and VIA 4in1, version 4.32 is the latest VIA driver available. Nyar...

Nyarlathotep Posted August 24, 2001 Author Posted August 24, 2001 Oh and if you submint your problem to WW tech support and are not able to craete a e-report, run dxdiag, copy it, paste it in a text file and attach it to your case :DNyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted August 24, 2001 Author Posted August 24, 2001 Taken from Soundblaster.com:"Q7. Where can I download Creative's Windows 2000 drivers for my Sound Blaster Live!?Windows 2000 support for the Sound Blaster Live! is now available through : Live!Ware 3.0 for Windows 2000 ( includes core applications & driver )".So if if you've downloaded and installed Liveware 3.0 for Win200, you have the latest SBLive! drivers.Nyar...
number6 Posted August 24, 2001 Posted August 24, 2001 Wow this thread has gotten really long. Gobalopper I have not been following your posts, but if you are having problems with multiple hardware installed in the same motherboard, the problem could be in your motherboard. Have you checked the website for your motherboard for any FAQS or known problems? I am assuming you tried all of the latest drivers for your hardware and maybe tried a fresh install of the OS and software.
Gobalopper Posted August 24, 2001 Posted August 24, 2001 The reason I don't think it is the Sound Blaster cards causing the problem, in my case at least, is that I have now tried four different sound cards or no sound card and regardless the game still crashes. So that leaves me to believe that this is another problem similar to the VIA 4in1 thing, except I have an ALi chip instead of VIA. Or it is some sort of combination of my video card, Radeon 64MB and the motherboard Asus A7A266.At this point I really don't have a clue what I have left to try except to keep waiting for new drivers...
Gobalopper Posted August 24, 2001 Posted August 24, 2001 My problem is well known by some, Westwood included, I guess I am the "poster child" for the crash-to-desktop problem. Chris mentioned it in the chat once, it seems there is a small group of us, around 30 at last count I think, that have the problem and Westwood doesn't have a solution yet.I just downloaded a new BIOS for my motherboard so I am going to see if that makes any difference. And yes I have tried mutliple reformats and installs of different versions of Windows. No luck so far.
Nyarlathotep Posted August 24, 2001 Author Posted August 24, 2001 I agree with Gobalopper. I do not believe that this is a SBLive! issue. Although the combo with VIA could be it. Kinglowie, did you open a case with WW tech ? If so, what did they exactly say ?I would strongly suggest you open another case with them. Looking at Nine12's issue, they seem to be working well on his prob. If you want, I can do it for you, like I did for Alley_cat, Jeromeku and X-ray :)Nine12, reply again to them it didn't change anything. Not that it solved it, but it's good to know that you did see a change in prob after updating your video drivers. Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted August 24, 2001 Author Posted August 24, 2001 Kinglowie, I already remembered what they said. Try to open another case and if it fails, let me know, I'll help you...Nyar...
Guest bizmaster Posted August 25, 2001 Posted August 25, 2001 now that i have updated all drivers and bios, I can run the game as long as i turn shadows off.I have 512k memory, tdk velo cdr, p3 - 800, asus CUSL motherboard, SB live, nothing is sharing an IRQ, Geforce 3 with 12.9 driversThe game now runs , I am happy. But I wish I could turn the shadows on. If i do, the game crashed to desktop after a few minutes.Anyone else with a similar system get the shadows to work?Someone mentioned something about removing RAM , did that help anyone?
Guest bizmaster Posted August 26, 2001 Posted August 26, 2001 So what about removing memory? Anybody try that?
Guest SimMaster Posted August 26, 2001 Posted August 26, 2001 I have attempted to get this game working in win2k with no success.I get a lockup with both an MX300 and a SB 16. I have 128MB RAM and a BX chipset. So, I don't believe its a via/live combo prob. Dunno what to do at this point. :(
Nyarlathotep Posted August 26, 2001 Author Posted August 26, 2001 antonym, feel free to email your save game to me: respect_30@hotmail.comNyar...

Nyarlathotep Posted August 26, 2001 Author Posted August 26, 2001 Simmaster, you've tried the suggestions in this post (there's a summary on page 14) ?Also, did you contact WW tech support ?If you want us to help you, please post your e-report or dxdiag output here.Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted August 26, 2001 Author Posted August 26, 2001 Global, your prob seems to be weird. Lookng at Bizmasters prob, did you also turn shadows off ?Nyar...
Guest antonym Posted August 26, 2001 Posted August 26, 2001 The latest patch does seem to have helped the stability for me. If I scroll without right clicking on the map things seem to be more stable. However, I can still get it to freeze if I right click on the map in an area where there are a lot of units. For example, being on one side of the map and clicking in an area where a lot of reinforcements have grouped on the other side.I have a save game that demonstrates this pretty well if anyone is interested. I'd be interested to see what the results are on other people's machines and setups.
Guest SimMaster Posted August 27, 2001 Posted August 27, 2001 Well, yes. I have done all listed in this thread and I have contacted WW. Although, the WW issues is wasted effort. My incident has been resolved and deleted. And still I have lockups. The funniest part is that, If I only mute the sound, I can then play the game. Here is the dxdiag info:------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 8/27/2001, 16:06:46 Machine name: SNAFU Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (5.0, Build 2195) Service Pack 2 Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: SOYO__ System Model: AWRDACPI BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG Processor: Intel Pentium III, ~550MHz Memory: 128MB RAM Page File: 135MB used, 215MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 8.0 (4.08.00.0400)DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.01.2258.0400------------DxDiag Notes------------ DirectX Files Tab: No problems found.
