Imperial Sardaukar

I' a little confused...Are the Sardaukar specifically loyal to House Corrino, or do they simply support whoever the current Emporer appens to be?

Well the Imperial Sardaukar are supposed to be loyal to the 'Emperor' of the Known Universe, so I guess that would make them loyal to 'whoever happens to be the Emperor' at the current time. That's assuming that there is actually an Emperor to serve. ;)

Between battle of Corrin, when Sardaukars firstly appeared and era of Muad'Dib ruled only Corrino House. They served Padishah Emperor, who was always Corrino. According to Children of Dune, they remained loyal only to House Corrino. Muad'Dib was guarded by more numerous and powerful Fremen warriors, Leto II built his own Fish Speakers army. So Sardaukars were Corrino's, not imperial.

The Sardaukar went and protected whatever the Emperor wanted them to protect, and fought with the Harkonnens, if you remember. But they were eventually weeded out and the Fremen and then Fish Speakers replaced their role.

That Emperor was always Corrino. In Children they followed Faradn Corrino, Shaddam's grandson, not ruling regent Alia Atreides.

They did serve under Leto II for a while... before they betrayed him and Leto had them killed.

[hide]I can't quote the book (I got it from the library) but the Sardaukars tried to assasinate Leto II. They failed, and Leto decided to get rid of them. As a replacement he got the fish speakers.[/hide]
