Let's turn on communications. In Battletech universe, there's a half-religious organisation named "ComStar" controlling whole communication and information net, like Spacing Guild in Dune controls space travel.

But how in Dune universe they can communicate trough kiloparsecs with other planets without using computers? Is there something like ComStar, or it's too in Guild's hands?

Radio is a nonsense. For example, Harkonnens couldn't call Emperor in a month with that in 10193, because of limited light-speed.
