Thread removal request

Hello

This is my first time posting here. My apologies if I am putting this thread in the wrong place. I am unfamiliar with the site.

Some 12 years ago I sent a friend of mine the draft of a novel I was working on. Without my knowledge, he posted that draft on the dune2k fan fiction forum, claiming he was the "co-author." I do not care about the theft or deception, but I would very much like this draft to be removed. I am now on the verge of publication, and if the atrocious work I produced as a 14-year-old idiot were discovered here it would cause me considerable embarrassment.

I tried to send a message to a moderator some time ago but received no reply. If anybody could give me the name of the right person to contact about this I would be grateful.

Thanks.

Hello. I'm sorry, we have issues with the PM system ATM (or maybe it is not allowed for newly registered users to send PMs).

Anyway, if you could just point to the thread where your work was published, we'll promptly remove it (as well as this conversation).

I haven't touched the PM box since we had the forum engine upgrade. For some reason the engine change brought back all messages that I had deleted from my inbox (and very likey, outbox too) since I registered here, resulting in that I currently have nearly twice the allotted number of messages in my PM box. I don't want to purge them all at once, since some are still important, but even sorting them is a problem because the new engine attempted to re-organize the messages into "conversations" (a la GMail), so there's no inbox or outbox anymore.

I guess you can just post - for now - the threads or posts of yours you want removed right here (unless this is something super private).

In my RTS thread, here:

The last one is the post that also requests the deletion.

All in between may be deleted because they are either unwanted or a double post that I did some years ago.

Thank you.

I have different time stamps on posts because of another time zone. Could you please post individual links to each of your posts you want removed?

In the top-right corner of each post, there is its number (e.g. #5). If you click on it, you should get a link to that individual post in the thread. A JavaScript windo should pop up saying "Share post #...".

Otherwise I'm afraid I might remove something you did not intend me to.

Thank you Shai Hulud for your quick reply.

The url for the thread to be deleted is as follows:

No problem about the PM issues. All's well that ends well.

Thanks again.

Okay, that will be fine. Just realised I should have called you "MrFlibble" earlier, rather than "Shai Hulud." Sorry about that.

Thanks for forwarding the request.

I understand. I hope the numbering doesn't change when posts are deleted in between?

Thank you.

In the past I also deleted some posts by editing and placing a dot.

Back then I did this for several reasons.

Now it just looks silly. ;)

Unless you know of a way to restore them, I see no other option that to let them completely be removed.

At least the dot posts. Unfortunately there are a lot. So I edited some as thank you reactions to the encouraging posts.

And I guessed what they might have contained.

21 posts for deletion remain. There where 28 :(

This is a conversation with another user. Even though he got banned (as far as I know), there's no way I'm removing one user's posts at another user's request, unless these posts either a) explicitly break the forum rules and/or contain spam, or b) contain the requesting user's materials (such as in case of pb87). The conversation you have linked to does not seem to violate any rules. If you want, I can delete your posts from that conversation.

As for the empty posts of yours, I actually thought that regular users are allowed to delete their own posts - at least, this was the case prior to the forum engine change.

Anyway, I've cleaned up the empty posts you've linked to. If there are more, just tell me.

Posted

Ok, I understand.

Thanks. It looks more cleaned up now.

No need to delete the remaining then. Even though they are sort of double. They still do contain the most recent information.

And deleting ones own posts. Is, not possible for all I know. Or I would have done that myself ages ago.

I do know about deleting personal conversations. Which I did.

So I guess we need to keep this thread around.

pb87, regarding your request: Gobalopper (the forum administrator) has just confirmed that the fanfiction thread has been removed from public view.

It will probably still linger on for a while in Google searches though.

On a related note, Gobalopper has also informed me that the PM box size for moderators has been increased, which hopefully fill provide a solution for the PM situation.

Thank you for all your help in this matter, MrFlibble. Thanks to Gobalopper, also. I am pleased that the thread has gone from view. Out of interest, do you know how long it will remain in Google searches? Will it linger forever? If so I guess it can't be helped. The most important thing is now taken care of, so thanks again. Good news about the PM boxes, too.

Sorry for a belated reply. I think Google cache gets purged every once in a while. At any rate, it will probably not be possible to come across any publicly available copies of that thread by chance, without searching for it specifically (and knowing that it was posted here).
