Thought I would update you guys on what we have been up to.

We have released the following:

New Version of Dune 2000 :GruntMods Edition Portable http://dune.gruntmods.com/Dune/Dune%202000%20Portable.rar

Auto Update system for Dune 2000 :GruntMods Edition

Westwood Online Components http://dune.gruntmods.com/Dune/WestwoodOnline/Westwood%20Online.msi

The new Auto Update system can be installed by either a fresh install using the latest version of the installer (1.3 http://dune.gruntmods.com/Dune/Dune%202000%20Gruntmods%20Edition/Dune%202000.msi ) or using the current patch file( http://dune.gruntmods.com/Dune/Dune%202000%20Gruntmods%20Edition/Update.exe )

I used Thumpers Gif in tha patcher to spice it up a bit.

Im not sure if the Online Components is fully working yet, so please test it out.

The Auto Patcher will only download a patch with your permission, and only if your version is not up to date. Keep checking for the new patch coming soon ;)

What's the difference between your portable and original Dune 2000, because I am already using a portable Dune.

The technology used is different, the old technology was a bit crude, but the new version is 100mb larger

Hey, I liked the old portable.  :) It was just a simple compressed file, now I can't change/edit the files.  >:(

Lol, that is the point of portable, its not supposed to be extractable, that defeats the point. But one of the problems with the old portable was the saves were stored in the temporary file of windows, not a great solution.

Then it is pretty useless for me too.

Well, if you absolutely need that, copy the GruntMods edition folder to a usb stick and delete the movies folder. This should make a version that is smaller and can be modified, but is not truly portable as its size is uncompressed.

IMO, it is not the size that makes a 'portable'. Now USB sticks have plenty of Gigs. It suffices to run without installation and messing with registry.

Well I thought about that, I have a 4 gig now myself, but I also took into consideration the fact that I was using a 512 mb usb stick for 2 months and others might be in a similar situation.

The "Portable Edition" Is not intended for modding purposes, but for gameplay on the go.

That said, I have the old download available: http://dune.gruntmods.com/Dune/Dune%202000%20Portable.rar

Someone told me that your portable version is tested and running under Windows 8. ;-)

BTW I noticed a VM logo, are you running through a Virtualized OS (Win98 or Linux?)

no, VM makes things other then personal machines. And I have no doubt that it works with windows 8.
