Andrew
The Supreme Court ruled Monday that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their raceWhite people were not promoted. There were not enough minorities, and the state feared a lawsuit of discrimination by minorities. There are minorities in Connecticut?Promotions and everything should not take into affect sex, ethnicity, religion etc (anything protected by law). It should have to do with work performance and standardized tests. Not "we need to reach a target of at least 10% minorities" or any reverse racism to promote minorities instead of who is best for the job. I'm sure we've debated affirmative action before, and of course it has some pros, but it can be taken too far such as this case.Fifty six firefighters passed the exams, including 41 whites, 22 blacks and 18 Hispanics. But of those, only 17 whites and two Hispanics could expect promotion. The city eventually decided not to use the exam to determine promotions. It said it acted because it might have been vulnerable to claims that the exam had a "disparate impact" on minorities in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.The white firefighters said the decision violated the same law's prohibition on intentional discrimination.Hey! Let's design a test to see who is fit for command. *get test results*, uh oh, not enough minorities are fit to command based on the test, lets come up with another test until the results fit what we want. Most recently city of Toronto, a very multicultural city, photoshopped a black guy into a picture that originally had a white guy. City digitally adds black guy to Fun Guide cover to make it more
Tatar Khan
Yeah, that is how it is. When you apply to Government Jobs applications ask if you are a visible minority thus discriminating right there whether you get through or not in applications process, not talking about the interviews even.
