Dune Timeline

Writing in a consistent way isn't what you do to please fans. It's a normal thing in writing. And by the way, if Dune declines into "catering for the fans", it's goodbye to literature the same way milking a cash cow does.

Frank Herbert didn't write to make some "fans" happy. He was writing for his own amusement in the first place. If that is gone or elbowed into the corner by some other priorities, creativity disappears as well.
