My friend is going to New Zealand for two weeks in September, and she's been kind enough to invite me to come along.  We've been looking through some travel brochures for things to see while we're there, but I figure there's stuff there that might not be listed in the brochures.  This is where you folks come in.  If you're from - or ever visited - New Zealand, and have any places to suggest, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD let me know.

We had originally planned to take a train ride around the South Island, but it seems a little too restrictive, and my friend fears she might get sick in a train (she's a photographer, and we're both tourists, so not looking out the windows is not an option for us).

So far, our list of possible places to see is as follows:

-Auckland (obviously; we're landing there, and staying in a town nearby)

-Rotorua ('cause geysers are awesome)

-Darth Vader (listed on most maps as "Milford Sound")

-The Moeraki Boulders

-Waitomo Glow-Worm caves

-The Franz Josef Glacier

-Maybe some of the Lord of the Rings sites

We're staying with my friend's friend and fellow photographer, so we're lucky enough to have our own personal tour guide of sorts.  But if anyone here has any ideas for places to see, let me know.

You can do lots of stuff in queenstown and fox is a good glacier (less busy than Franz-josef) which has everything that Franz-Josef has.

I did the Awesome Adventures New Zealand package.  It was really great, try looking into that.

Btw, the full day climb of Franz was the best part of my time there.
