XWISC can't set hosts file

Recommended Posts

It'll probably be permissions. Are you logged on as admin?

Does whatever account you have logged on with have permissions to write to that file?

A quote from the guide for changing IP addr. manually for the Emperor game:

Alternatively edit your hosts file... (longer and much more drawn out). The HOSTS file can usually be found at:

Windows XP: C:Windowssystem32driversetc

Windows 2k: C:WinNTsystem32driversetc

Win9X and WinME: C:windowshosts

Put in a new line like this in your hosts file:

xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa servserv.westwood.com

Replace the numbers with the IP address of the server you want, choose from below.

64.212.211.93    <-> RA's SERVER [<==Use this]

195.13.63.187  <-> XWIS SERVER [<== Backup]

(mine is: 64.212.211.93 servserv.westwood.com)

Save your HOSTS file.

If you cant save it..it will be a permissions problem which must first be sorted out.

I think its somethingy in Vista.. (UAC for example, which prevents you from writing to systemfiles....)

Windows XP: C:Windowssystem32driversetc

Windows 2k: C:WinNTsystem32driversetc

Win9X and WinME: C:windowshosts

Windows Vista: ????
