Many will say that pragmsatic issues like getting the job done comes before higher fancy needs, or that emotions are in the way of being reasonable. This, while not necessarily all nuts, is in relation/competition with the idea that love is efficient. Here's something resuming rapidly what I see about it:

Since quite some time now, I consider plants or whattever to be a lower version of humans in term of will (and with little potential to do things for moral's sake). This came from some views of organization based on structure which become more and more complete/complex. The same goes for cultures: what is done is based on the best available around, even if it's the same "quality" of humans. And the best orientation of will to me is actually in a love "state" (or "go forward to the absolute, complete comprehension"), all this being part of the whole (God if you will) which brought the world as it is to go from its pragmatic form with free will towards perfection. Love is a complete emotion, state; it is the true essence to go towards and which brings further. The pragmatic explanation is that what is true tends to express itself naturally better and tends to win (this is Ghandi?s).

So, is love efficient? How so?

If I'm not clear somewhere, please just ask for clarification.

Love is a huge umbrella term, describing different experiences. Platonic love? Horny love? Sacrifice-everything-for-someone love?

What is love being efficient towards? Usually if something is efficient, it is efficient towards getting the job done quickly, and getting it done with the least amount of energy.

Actually, I just kept it as love overall, including all your examples.

Love of XYZ. Of hobby for one, of wife for other, love of whattever might be for humans. You can see in my reply to it that I took an "upmost" example of it as going towards fulfilment, even if it isn't all-explaining or anything. Or would you propose a more restricted line?....

Efficient: for a person, for a society. Ex: Some will argue that religions hindering kindergarden-based system because mothers love their child more is endoctrinated inefficiency.

So if love is the best example of practical effect of the will which pushes everything in the universe, can we also say about it, that it is practically organizing it (or at least humans)? Perhaps yes on some eschatological level, "loving each other within the empire of God", but if practically tends to mix parts of societies freely, I find it more chaotical in essence. I know your opinion about the core law of world is efficiency, but it does not count for love...

Want pragmatism? Here you go:

1. Horny love

Pre-programmed set of feelings that is activated when the scent of the other person is felt. The feeling is stronger if your body indentefies more and more different DNA parts. The person ( different sex) that has the most different (compatible) DNA with you will be the most attractive.

2. Platonic love

Better call it admiration taken to a new level. Fascination of a person for another person if the last person excells in all domains the first person likes, in a fashion that will not create envy.

3.Sacrifice-all love

The two above merged

4.Parently love

Pre-programmes set of feelings used to guarantee the safety and well-being of children. Both parents will do all possible to raise their child/ren. The trigger is the birth and the child itself.

5.Love for a hobby and stuff

By practicing the trades you are best at you increase your self-esteem, so it is normal to like doing what you are best at.

Hope I didn't scare you  ;D

Well Daviduh, you're saying the particulars of something pretty close to my stance. I see love as more stable than technical tools and forming a solid foundation, an essential one. (Being essential, there is more than materialism.) Love seems still to be a "+" if it is to be put in an equation, wether this "+" is rightly oriented or not (towards oneself, one other, others, good/misled universal...).

But I do not see love as always right, a long way from there. Not more than I see good will as such. It's more of an unclear compass affected by many short/longer-range sources. Rationality then comes and tries to put some order (and affecting will which is to affect feelings).

With no love (positive feelings...), I doubt the rest of the efficiency mecanism in a world with actually living humans. Especially in any model supposing essence, existence (efficient at what?? etc.).

- I might continue, but need to get order some things... and sleep

Well, without love we wouldn't replicate, and the species would die, just because we'd have something better to do as individuals. That's why it feels so darn good.
