Dune Pronunciations?

Well, I know Bi-la Kaifa should be said:

"Bee lah kah-ee-fah"

But that's just my other memory bringing up those Arabic ancestors again...   ;)

Never heard of that, it's not in the Terminology of the Imperium.  ::)

Nope, but its in the book.  Interchangable with Bi La Kaifa.

I noticed that as well.  I think it's a typo, but  don't know much arabic, so I could be wrong.

As for the pronounciations, go to http://www.flg21.com/dune/ and check the links.  Somewhere, there is a site which shows opinions on pronunciation.  Although many of them are pretty strange IIRC.

Possibly a typo, but seeing as each spelling turns up as often as the other, it's pretty difficult to tell which is the typo and which isn't.  And if it was a mere typo, I'm kinda surprised that it is used in multiple editions.

But, then again, there is muad'dib and maud'dib.

Not Maud'dub, maud'dib.  The a and u keep switching places.  There is a thread about it.

When pronouncing Dune words one must always remember that they are pronounced phonetically. Therefore Bi-la Kaifa would be pronounced "by-la kai-fa"
