hi  . can i get some advice on haw mutch i should set my virtual memory for eatch hard disc.

or i should just put it on  system maneged size....

If you have loads and loads of RAM, I think it is safe to put virtual ram on a low setting. If not, leave it on standard windows managed.

Thats what I do.

If you have multiple harddisks ( not volumes but physical disks ) and know what you are doing it's better to put the virtual memory on your non-OS disk.

But then that's just if you know what you are doing. If you are a normall computer user leave it on the default setting in which Windows controles your Virtual Memory.

yes  sir  actuly i am less than a normal user my info is too little. i will leave it to windows

manegment , and i only use 1 hard disk that if i got the right meaning. ok one more thing plz

i  noticed that virtual memory is turned off  for the rest of the drivers sutch as  d: e: ...ec

should i  put it on for those drivers as well?  or just c: volum. thx

just curious, are you using WindowsXP ?

if so can you go to your command prompt ( DOS ) and type systeminfo. Which values do you have with :

total physical memory

available physical memory

Virtual memory Max / available / in use

yes am useing xp pro

total pysical m = 255mb

availeble pysical m = 124mb

virtual memory:

availble= 2.008mb

  max= 2.048 mb

in use = 40 mb

This is mine.

C:>systeminfo

Total Physical Memory:    446 MB

Available Physical Memory: 182 MB

Virtual Memory: Max Size:  2.048 MB

Virtual Memory: Available: 2.008 MB

Virtual Memory: In Use:    40 MB

Notice anything funny about the two ?

well we are using the same virtual memory whitch is  system maneged size . but u have olmost 2 times my phisical memory because i have only 256 ram card and u have i think 512 ram card  which  i will soon get

and olso i noticed that when i get the extra ram moudel i would olso put virtual memory on system maneged size.  right?

yep on all points. :)

With the addition that we both just use 40mb of virtual memory. . now your best guess. . is that just a default value or do we really need that virtual memory ? ;)

That would depend on what you're running. As soon as you start up a game for example and start playing, your used virtual memory will increase significantly ;)

you know, Windows Virtual Memory is a strange thing. ( I prefer the Linux SWAP partitions )

Indead if you are running more programms, or better phrased, if you require more memory during Windows operations Windows will use your normall RAM and your Pagefile (virtual memory). Some programms (Adobe CD for example) can require Virtual Memory.

Your Virtual memory is just an extention to your hardware (RAM). And as you need more memory (running a game for example) Windows will get that memory in the form of virtual memory.

If your RAM memory is sufficient to run a programm, or you have specified the programm not to use any virtual memory (I force the Windows kernel and subsystems in my RAM for example instead of the default option to send it to virtual) theoretically your pagefile shouldn't increase while you run a programm. That is if you have enought RAM and verry hypothetically.

As with Windows, nothing is as it should. Like me, disabeling your virtual memory will not really "remove" it. Just tell's Windows not to use it. (the values from my systeminfo command are default Windows values, not real ones)

Make any change to your pagefile, set it to low for example or remove it and after a reboot Windows will have resetted the settings and create a new pagefile for you. (makes you wonder who's in charge of your OS, Windows or you)

a laggy game doesn't have to be caused by a slow internet connection. It could be one of the player has a slow computer which is lagging the game.

If it it sometimes, I doubt it is a setting on your computer. If should happen every time if that was the case.
