I found this and though everyone might be interested.  It seems a lot of the Westwood staff ended up forming a new Company called Petroglyph and their first game is in conjunction with Lucas Studios.  It's a Star Wars based RTS with apparently battles on the ground and in space.  Here are some links.

Game looks awesomage! Better that Star Wars: Galatic Battle Grounds I can't wait to see a deom I hope they make plyable ones. I lloked to see if they had a Beta sign up for the game, that would be awesome.

....

Now this is the company we need to petition to make a new Dune game. If you guys really are seroious, I think we maight be able to pull it off. But the whoel community needs to be behind it. I'm not to good at all that orginaztion stuff. If Chirs L doesnt already know of this group maybe he'll see this tread and have some insite too how to get these guys on our side.

How would we go about finding out how much the rights would cost?

I wonder if any of them have the copy of the sequall that Gob posted?
