Ok, ever since I reformated my computer (due to virus issues) 'My computer' (the screen with all my drives and stuff) loads up every time I turn on my computer.  It's not really a pc health threatening event, but it is rather annoying.  I opened up my msconfig and in the start up tab, it doesnt' have 'my computer' listed or anything (unless it's named something else??) so, if anyone knows what is causing this and can help, please do so!

Thanks in advance for any ideas and help,

slap

it has "Adobe gamma loader (wtf is that), microsoft office, microsoft works calendar reminder, and powerreg schedulerV2"

... is one of these causing the problem?

Adobe Gamma Loader comes with either Adobe Acrobat Reader for PDFs or Photoshop... dunno exactly, cause I always get them both installed at the same time usually. But you can just remove it from the autostart.

but you should check out your REAL autostart with all hidden autostarts.

-> Start -> Run -> type: "regedit" -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Run

Here you find anything that loads up every time you start windows.

But I doubt any of these things are the reason of your problem. But you should check them out anyway from time to time.

it didn't have anything out of the norm listed on there either... no my computer, or anything that looked to be what would cause my computer to load up...

thanks again, for any further help.

My computer will show up as Explorer.exe, look for that.

Like the man veK said, check in:

-> Start -> Run -> type: "regedit" -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Run

and also in:

-> Start -> Run -> type: "regedit" -> HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Run

Well, thanks for the help, I found out what it was.  It is a program called changeICON (not a clue how I got this, as I hadn't installed ANYTHING before this problem started.  (hadn't even gone on the internet, or installed my video card drivers or any basic system tools so... dunno) anyway, it starts up 'my computer' for some reason.. What I did (and I really recommend this to anyone who wants to clean out their start up command easier) is download and run a program called autoruns  which goes through all your start up folders... the (run, runonce, and runonceEX in both local and current users, and I think it also goes through your winlogon folder in the windowsNT folder.)  and it displays a list of every program that starts up, in order.  you can uncheck, delete, view the properties, and even google the program to make sure it's not an important system file.

Thanks for the tip. I use Spybot of late to do most of that for me.

Having looked at it a little closer, that looks like a pretty snazy program, and seeing as its from sysinternals, I would expect no less from them (used some of their other progs, including SIDChanger). Good stuff.
