As Charles' wedding with Camilla approaches, this question is probably on everyone's mind:

Given Britain's rather bad experience with kings named Charles, seeing how the next one looks like he'll be living up to his name, and taking into account the policy of pre-emption embraced by Britain's current leadership, do you believe Charles should be pre-emptively beheaded?

I'm not a Brit so I'm not going to vote. What did the previous Charleses (?) do actually? I do foresee that this one is going to have a hard time during his kingship.

Charles I tried to make himself an absolute monarch, pissed off Parliament, ignited the Civil War, and was beheaded for treason at the end.

Charles II was the first monarch after the Restauration, and was more French than British, really...

Charles I was overthrown by Parliament. Oliver Cromwell was the military commander who created and led the New Model Army that won the Civil War against Charles' loyalists. He became Lord Protector (a sort of military dictator or quasi-king) soon after the end of the Civil War.

As the first Brit to post, I think that he shouldn't be killed, the monarchy are good for a laugh, but I think they should be removed from their positions.

He's a better leader than Tony Blair that's for sure.  He's a great ambassador for out country and does more than most to help Charities and people less fortunate than him.  That is comparison with other people of similar wealth, but in your hatred of the rich I guess that doesn't increase his standings.

He's not a leader, actually. He's an overpaid figurehead.

Are we talking about the same Charles here? The one who was recently pissed off with one of his maids for "trying to rise above her station"? The one who is hated by millions of people throughout the world for the whole Diana story?

That is comparison with other people of similar wealth, but in your hatred of the rich I guess that doesn't increase his standings.

He bloody inherited all his money. He never had to work a single day in his life. Sorry, but he'll get no sympathy from me. At least people like Bill Gates actually know what it's like to earn a living.

P.S. This topic was meant as a sort of April Fools' joke, by the way.

Diana is always viewed as a victim in the whole soap opera, while Charles and Camilla are viewed as guilty of all this. It seems that simple to me, but as a foreigner I won't know all the details.

Well you know more about it then me, but I think my post resembles the public's perception. Charles committed adultry with the woman who's now his fiancee, and that will really stick.

By the way, only 2 of the people who voted so far are Brits. Maybe the topic's title isn't obvious enough for the others ::)

Ask me, all monarchs that are of no actual use should be "fired". If they don't control or direct anything, then they have no use, and thus should be removed from their positions. Specially if they live on our taxes, like the king in my country does.
