Closes thing I have found is LitePC.

Used it to remove other stuff, as IE is embedded deep. I think there are two components to it though, the core that is used by the system, and the browser that I hate. Was going to remove the browser anyday soon...

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the idea erjin but the removal of IE is only available in the professional addition  :-

I realise that Internet Explorer is deeply coded into the win2k OS (obviously a stratigical move rather than a necessary one) and as such the removal of it would result in loss of funtionallity, but I know that it is possible to remove at least the web browser part as you said in your post... apparently the beta version of Microsofts spyware removal tool actually removed the Internet Explorer browser :) Never though Microsoft would be the ones to solve a problem like this, but obviously that version has been pulled...

ah well the search continues  :-

[edit] The Internet Explorer browser has now been removed from my system! YAY!  but I have noticed the side effect that my network connection status icon no longer appears in the bottom right left of my screen, lol... [/edit]

I am very curious as to how you done it in the end. (I didnt realise IE can only be removed in pro edition [silly]).

Edit------

Did you mean pro edition of windows or the litePC software ?  :O

The pro edition of litePC. It didn't say that the "removeal of IE" feature was only available in the pro edition on the website so it was worth a shot.

Update...turns out I did remove Internet Explorer 6 yay! But somehow Internet Explorer 5 now exists on my PC, lol....The search continues.

Cant imagine M$ allowing us to remove something they have paid a lot to put in (in fines, I think they have paid, or will pay).

Either way, they want it in and do not want us to have the option of removing it.

yes you can remove everything. actually you can really remove everything. not with windows itself though but with nlite. you can also include sps, hotfixes, drivers and tweak your windows to the max with it. it's free by the way.

the mb size of my windows xp pro is reduced to only 240MB (thus including sp2 & 8 hotfixes). I removed almost everything I'll never need.

Take a look at it and built a better windows: http://nuhi.msfn.org/index.html

Nice one Kev, didnt realise you would be so useful  :P

I am always very useful concerning terchinal issues... only if it is about specific software (like my EBFD connection problem back then) I sometimes might be helpless  ;) but this is when you come in  ;D

nLite really rules. as I said, I removed a lot of useless stuff like windows games, com+ stuff and many more and my windows is only 245mb WITH SP2 & hotfixes included... but what I like most at nLite is that you can tweak your windows right from the beginning so when it's installed you already have a lot of settings set by "your default" which you would have to enable manually if you were about to install a "fresh from the box windows". give nLite a try. it's very easy to use and it (nearly) always tells you specific details about  components which you'd like to uninstall (what purpose or non-purpose they are for and on what components they depend on). and as you mentioned.... the best thing: it's absolutely free for everyone...
