Ok... this is probably a bad topic to start @ the emperor forums, it should be in general RTS forums or something, but the problem is that the most people don't even know emperor. I just can't get it, they know starcraft, RA2, empire earth, ... but not emperor ?!

I'm a RTS gamer and played the fowolling games :

C&C - WC2 - RA - C&C:TS - Z - Dune2k - RA2 - E:BfD - WC3 - Blitzkrieg - -C&C:Gen. - WC3:TFT - WH4k:DawnOfWar - Bfme - and probably more...

I think emperor is the best.... OBVIOUSLY the best of these games. IMO emperor is the best RTS game ever, it has the balance and especially the unique ownage gameplay like never seen before, it's the first 3D RTS! (as far as I know). AND it is made by the best company ever aka Westwood Studios. I don't understand why this game isn't popular, why this game isn't played by 5000 people online, why it gets rankings of avarage 81%, why the most think that RA2/BFME is better  :O >:(

my question is... am I the only one who thinks like this ?

You posted this on the Emperor forum at a Dune site. This is the most likely place to get some support. ;)

You're not the only one. I too think that Emperor is one of the best RTS' ever made. It's also in my top 3 list of favorite modern games. Why not many people know of it, is probably because of not enought marketing, and that Dune games have never been really succesfull because previous Dune games weren't succesfull too. (Excluding Dune II perhaps. But that game is too old for a good comparison) Take Red Alert (1) for example, one of the reasons of its succes was because it continued on an already succesfull game. I agree, why dont more people know about emperor ? Its probably got nothing to do with how good it is or how good it wasnt. I agree with Timenn's idea aout ubilding on success, but even for C&C to be the foundation of Red alert, C&C had to be famous and popular, without a foundation itself, right ?

Why couldn't Emp be the foundation for more games, rather then looking for Emp to be built upon other games reputation ?

I agree with you but...

it's just the way it goes in the gaming world. some games become well known and popular and others don't even if they are as good as the ones which got famous or are even better. there are some possible explanations for this like different marketing strategies (advertising, game bundles with the gfx card, public relations and much other things). another explanation might be the lack of support in fields like national or international leagues.

I could continue and give you some information about this from the point of view of the marketing because in the last 2,5 years I learnt a lot about introducing new products and how they become succesful or disappear from the market, how they become popular or don't be noticed... it's like this: the product can be the best in the world - if nobody knows about it, nobody will buy it...
