Well I noticed that in the news lately it is all about whether Kerry can take care of terrorists if he became president and seems to be the big hurdle for him to overcome.

So it seems that Bush raised the level to orange today to prove that he can take care of terrorists. Raising the level costs $$$, so it shows he has $$ in his "pocket" to spend. Oh no terrorists! Hasn't West Nile virus affected (or will in the near future) more people than terrorists? But did they spend trillions of dollars on it? Oh well, who cares if an innocent person gets bit by a mosquito and dies.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

So only 300 or so people died in 2003 (In U.S.), but 3000 people have been severely infected by it (2003, U.S.). And it hasn't even spread across all of North America. To prevent this it means spraying chemicals and such, yah!

They say that the terrorists might attack the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group and NYSE.

International Monetary Fund

The IMF is an organization of 184 countries, working to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty.

If I didn't know better the terrorists would be basically attacking the world? Bad for them. That would be like attacking the UN building.

So these warnings are basically scare tactics. Bush's approval ratings drop, so they warn about terrorists, not citing any specifics. I read on another forum that if there were major terrorists attacks Bush could declare himself leader or something that would basically cancel the elections.

So basically I think West Nile virus and other deadly things like SARS and such are more important than terrorists. Maybe if the US would stop invading and interfering with other countries they wouldn't have a reason to attack them.

Sorry for the rant. :)

Normally I'd agree it's a big load of BS.  However, I thought I saw fear in Tom Ridge's eyes, SWAT teams are deployed around NYC, and the Holland Tunnel has just been closed in NYC.  (Narrow tunnel, would be easy to bomb I suppose.)  Perhaps for once they have something, but none of us believe them, for it was the Bush who cried wolf too many times.

As for West Nile, my state gets hit hard during the summer.  I wish they'd spend some of that billion dollars of frauded money in the Iraq War to fight it.  (Yes, the Department of Justice has begun an investigaiton of fraud for over a billion dollars of Iraq War funds.)

I can't believe the public is so blind to what bush is trying to pull off.

"I've got a reason for running. I talk about a larger goal, which is to call upon the best of America. It's part of the renewal. It's reform and renewal. Part of the renewal is a set of high standards and to remind people that the greatness of America really does depend on neighbors helping neighbors and children finding mentors. I worry. I'm very worried about, you know, the kid who just wonders whether America is meant for him. I really worry about that. And uh, so, I'm running for a reason. I'm answering this question here and the answer is, you cannot lead America to a positive tomorrow with revenge on one's mind. Revenge is so incredibly negative. And so to answer your question, I'm going to win because people sense my heart, know my sense of optimism and know where I want to lead the country. And I tease people by saying, 'A leader, you can't say, follow me the world is going to be worse.' I'm an optimistic person. I'm an inherently content person. I've got a great sense of where I want to lead and I'm comfortable with why I'm running. And, you know, the call on that speech was, beware. This is going to be a tough campaign."

"As people do better, they start voting like Republicans...

...unless they have too much education and vote Democratic,

which proves there can be too much of a good thing."

Are you serious? This is actually getting ridiculous.

Fear of suicide bombers with commercial trucks.

As for Desert Storm saying the public is blind, sure we like being sheep really.  They've cried wolf so many times that I really doubt it most of the time when they say anything, but really if Bush were to plan his own terror attack on America it would be foolhardy.  First, because it quite simply goes against the everything America stands for.  Secondly, people would quite possibly see it as a reason to put Bush out of office, as it would be apparent with two major attacks in four years that he cannot defend us.

I find it strange that al-Quaeda would target monetary buildings. I mean, they want to scare people, so why not attack usual houses? Unless, of course, they are planning to make the world fearful...

And I keep hearing about this intelligence. If they all said the intelligence community was so bad around 9/11, all of a sudden, they are up in trust? Sure, better safe than sorry, but still...

At least Karl Rove has a sense of humor.

And he actually has fangirls...

I recommend you Americans to avoid mass places before those elections...

It's been years since I was in a city that's been constantly under terror alert.  Although a nearby one was under alert for possible terrorist actions by ELF (Earth Liberation Front).  Yes...we are screwed up enough to fear a group named ELF...

Yeah, Hasimir, MSNBC and CNN run separate polls. The fact that they're getting different answers leads me to believe that this is going to be one close election.

Did anyone see Bowling for Columbine?  This is exactly what Moore was talking about: keep the people constantly on Fear.  They're getting complacent, raise the threat level, fast!

Wolfwiz: Michael Moore thinks that Kerry will win by a landslide, becuase all of the polls are of 'likely voters', and he believes that past indicators of who is likely to vote are wrong; Moore thinks we will have much higher turnout this year.  I hope he's right.

Soon, the military will be able to paralyze people:

Anyways, I saw bowling for columbine. I think he is right.

The elections is a big one. What if both Bush and Kerry will get to about 48/49% of each, just like the Gore-Bush elections? Bush has been in power, he has given the rich and mighty people tax cuts, so it is likely that he will cheat again. Will people be able to protest? Well, now that there is a terror-alert, anyone who looks wrong at Bush or protest, will ultimately be arrested. I mean, they can't have streets full of people, open to bombs and such, right? Even now, New York seems to be full of fear and paranoia...

Please don't say these things, they scare me.

Not to mention that they're grossly wrong -- what makes you think Bush cheated in the first election? There was no evidence of foul play, otherwise the man would not have been president. The Supreme Court had the authority to stop the recount, and they used it. When they stopped the vote, Bush was ahead in Flordia. This is why we have power separated equally across all three branches; the president should not be some supreme entity immune from other branchs of power. Not to mention I heard of news stories about the Democrats as well as possibly the Republicans, cheating to get votes. What was it about some Democrats using the names of dead voters? Well, I don't know, now do I?

And about the army paralyzing people; I think you people like taking this whole situation a little too far. I certainly hope you all don't find this "fun" or"exciting" to know that your generation will finally have some claim to history, because you lived under an oppressive president and have been able to overthrow him? Has he really been that oppressive, now? Show me the ghetto fences. Show me the forced labor camps. Show me the media that does nothing but praise Bush all day, and never mentions any of his faults, ever? Show me the outlawed opposition parties that are unable to assemble? Show me the vast increase in taxes. Show me the military being housed in the homes of civilians. Show me men being shoved into the army -- and what's funny, the Democrats want that one!

There is criticism. And there is whining.

I actually did see an article (if I find it again, I'll post it) that had an eye-witness report by a BBC journalist who was in Florida for the 2002 elections--rather disturbing.  It seemed that the Jeb Bush campaign may have been tampering with the electronic ballot machines...  Trouble is, there's no way to confirm or disprove those accusations, becuase now there's no paper trail!

Well during the Canadian election the polls had Liberals and conservatives neck and neck. Yet the Liberals won by quite a lot more than the polls said.

Polls are bullshit. They are usually wrong and only take into account a very small percentage of people.

Now an election is accurate. (Unless tampered with or errored.)

It's called Fox News.  ;)

Don't worry, the system they put in to replace that one has managed to lose the Gubernatorial Primaries on its own.  We don't need tampering, we've got mistake making stuff already installed that could probably swing either way.

Is it true we're not allowing UN Election observors in?

Hehe, okay, Ordos, I'll give you that one. But that's not the whole media, I was referring to some sort of Orwellianesque stranglehold on the entire width and breadth of the published word.

I know, when I said "Does he control the media," the first thought I had was "Someone's going to say Fox, you know it." So, I guess I sort of brought it on myself. To be funny, I should have said, "Show me the occupied lands of other nations," but figured I should make my point quickly, because I really don't want some honest criticism to turn into, "the clandestine cabal of corrupt politicians are implanting micro-chips in our brains!"

Yup, first president ever to deny UN observors the right to do thier job in America...  What a surprise!  There was a massive GOP victory!  Thats some coincidence........................
