Good point.  I personally await a case similiar to that in England and France with Muslim headscarves.  Would the ACLU say that the headscarves are an overt religious symbol placing pressure on everyone?

Yes, and France banned those headscarves in public schools while the US decided that Muslim women had the right to wear them in public schools.

Worn by a normal citizen or a government employee?

Either, but I was thinking of a child in school.  After all, separation of church and state has been the reason for the bans in England and France due to children.

Well I doubt that because the separation of church and state goes both ways, the government cannot enforce any law requiring, say, a Muslim to remove his/her religious wear, or a Jewish citizen to remove his yamulke. That's just as wrong as the government enforcing a law that requires all citizens to wear religious wear.

would it be ok for the government to tell government employess to remove headwraps?

i believed it happened recently .. some muslim FBI agent was forced to remove her headwrap if i remember correctly?

Should this be allowed?

Should this be allowed?  You might say they can do this because the person is a representation of them... but as a government wouldnt you want diversity to represent you?  Thus people could view the woman FBI agent with a headwrap and say ... "oh how nice the government is an equal opportunity employer"

Is the government a business? I sure hope not.

Hey Wolfwiz, I guess miracles do happen haha ;)

errm .. not a business but they are an employer no?  meaning they should not be able to discriminate during hiring process or violate their worker's rights.
