lowzeewee Posted May 14, 2004 Author Posted May 14, 2004 Pardon me but what do you mean by "It is sick, but frankly the leaders of the war would have much less of a problem in explaining a million white deaths than a million asian deaths." ???
TMA_1 Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 meaning that germany was much closer to the western community than the japanese were. Dont get me wrong there was much communication involved between japan and the west, for many decades actually, but mostly it was just western exploitation. Nations like America were not too fond of the japanese, and it was not just because they were the enemy, but because the japanese were much more exotic to the americans than the germans, and less understood, so there was a potential for great racism if not careful. It makes me sick to think of america like that but it is true. For instance, if you look at the propaganda that we were pushing out during the war, and not all bad and lots were goood for moral boosts, but there were some that were horrible. Many things done would dehumanize the axis powers, but no group was treated as bad as the japanese. You could see posters outside recruiting offices that showed horribly twisted forms of japanese people that were obviously racist. Below the person it would say things like "get your free jap hunting liscence". This wasent done to the germans though. ALso just look at comic books of that age. The germans were portrayed as "regular" people, but the japanese that the superheroes faught against were horribly caracatured and made fun of.those are just examples of something that is obvious to historians. It could get really bad and I know this is just my opinion, but I dont think it should be discounted so simply.
