Well, that's it: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King has won 11 oscars. Only two other movies have ever won as many, Titanic and Ben Hur (no movies have won more, of course).

It's interesting that ROTK won so many oscars while the other two LOTR movies won, relatively, so few. Why do you think this is?

Your options are:

(a) ROTK is much better, of course!

(b) The Academy sort of sees all three LOTR films as one, and so they 'accumulated' the awards and heaped them on ROTK.

© FOTR and TTT had stiffer competition.

I'm guessing that most people will choose (a), since I've been hearing much praise for ROTK from people.

Perhaps options (a), (b) and © are all true.

B is most likely of your options, but I think it's because FotR and TTT are so obviously in preparation for the next film, that they were found unsatisfying in that they had no conclusion. So, perhaps as you say in the end the strung all three together and gave the awards to RotK.

That's interesting to hear, Jack Leaf; it's a rather unusual opinion.

But what's more weird is that so many people put ROTK a large number of notches above the other two LOTR movies. Sure, it's easily one of the best movies ever made, but I don't see what makes it so much better than TTT and FOTR.

For one thing, its battles are more monotonous than TTT's. For another, they end too quickly, thereby causing the whole story to culminate, in my opinion, in an undesirable anti-climax.

Fellowship of the ring was best because it wasn't just mindless orc-slaying and the few good battles it had were very nicely made. The movie left a great feeling and is easily one of my favourite movies ever. The Two Towers was just hack n' slash, and in my opinion, the camera angles were horrible and sometimes the battles were terrible confusing. A bad movie.

Return of the King is a good movie, indeed, but it still hasn't something Fellowship had. Sure, the battles were great and there were some

Well, I think war is supposed to be confusing; I don't mind that, and I don't think the big battle in TTT was confusing (humans and orcs are quite easy for me to tell apart).

In TTT, the Battle for Helms Deep went in stages. (First they rushed the walls, then they climbed ladders, then they blew the walls down, etc, etc.) The battles in ROTK were more about huge groups of people running at each other. There was a cool part with some trebuchets, but otherwise... Oh, there was also that part with the oliphaunt and Legolas ;D.
