Egeides:

From the Publisher

Filled with sex and violence--in and out of time and space--the three books of The Illuminatus are only partly works of the imagination. They tackle all the coverups of our time--from who really shot the Kennedys to why there's a pyramid on a one-dollar bill.

Coincidentally enough:

Ingram

"The biggest sci-fi cult novel to come along since Dune."--The Village Voice.

But Tio, is it a fictional story, a collection conspiracy theories, or a biography on Adam Weishaupt an the REAL Illuminati, who have been running the show from backstage for three hundred years - I have said too much...

Why do you think so?  And to be fair, I know it's a load of rubbish because the authors have said so!  What's sad is when you find whole websites devoted to the subject repeating the book ad nauseum as if it were true!  David Icke, I'm looking at you!  I quite like it because it's still quite an unsettling book, because it deals with stuff that the average person wouldn't be sure about.  And has many great philosophical and religious debates in it, challenging herd mentality.  Plus it's set in the 60s so McCarthyism is rife and LSD is everywhere!  Funky!
