no I did post it as a matter of fact. That was awhile ago though, in 2003... generally you forget such obscure statements by that time... obviously you dont though which is kinda eerie

do any of you find it weird that gunwounds searched for such an obscure statement from so long ago from me to put in his sig?

... lol

I haven't disproved Edric's point because I think it's based on flawed logic. As far as I can fathom, he is stating that any judgement of 'good' vs 'evil,' 'positive' vs 'negative,' or 'beneficial' vs 'detracting' is involving some form of moral decision, and that logical rules are in fact synonymous with moral rules. To be blunt, I disagree.  :)  I believe that it is possible for logic to be completely divorced from morality.

Axioms, axioms, axioms! In order to be logical, you must begin with certain axioms. And what else could these axioms be, if not moral values?

What are the assumptions on which you base your logical decisions? Don't they come down to notions of "good" and "evil"?

Generally anything older than page 1 is not replied to anymore...

I know what you're saying Edric and it's true that there is an inherant belief that one thing will be better than another. The innate 'why?' of every statement. It's that that at the very core it's more or less hedonistic, but I fail to see how that makes them moral.

Eg; Money is good.

Why?

It lets me buy stuff.

What's so good about that?

Stuff = enjoyment and comfort.

Why are these good?

They are enjoyable.

But I don't see how this 'good' becomes moral.

I said IF.

One sentance does not change the topic. A whole reply dedicated to it does.

i only quoted an excerpt of your total accusation ....dont make me go post your whole reply... your whole reply was accusing me of hating homosexuals and said that i was calling you crazy (very offtopic)... dont make me go and post it to prove you took this thread off course .. . just like i had to prove to TMA that he said the quotes he didnt say...

i have no problem with proving people wrong.

and you dont accuse people of crap and dont expect them to reply to defend themselves....

::)

Hedonistic morals. "Whatever causes happiness and pleasure is good". This is what your own example says, and this is what all hedonistic morality is based on.

If you use pure logic to make your decisions, that doesn't change the fact that those decisions are based on a certain set of axioms (in this case, a hedonistic moral code). So you're not amoral - you are a logical hedonist.

But I don't see how this 'good' becomes moral.

A "moral judgement" is anything that is based on "good" and "evil", is it not?

You don't want to quote the whole reply eh, Gunwounds? Somewhat unlike you... Very well, I shall.

More like 1 out of every 5287 replies... Since I only remember saying that once.

ok i was exagerrating but you said it several times very recently.... but i think you only said it *once* with real emotion and passion in it..... and i think the other times you were just quoting yourself in a "as a matter of fact" way.

an example of this "as a matter of fact" way (that you dont remember) would be:

This is why I try to refrain from quoting too much of peoples' posts. That, invariably, will happen, and I feel it is better to not be a party to such escalation of tactics -- that, and I'd rather have people concentrate on the points in my arguments rather than re-read another person's post.

actually I might become an archivist, it is one of my career ideas, sounds really awesome to do as well.

and I asked gunwounds to remove the last quote from his sig, but he wouldnt do it, I wonder why, he is kinda nuts.lol
