Remember we were trying to find what had changed since Generals worked ? well we did !

Try uninstalling Jedi Knight and Generals, then re-install Generals without the patch first, then if it works the patch

It could be anything, so I am trying to exclude all possibilities, whatever changed It's not easy to track down.

As I don't know what happened on his comp to stop the game working, any changes could be the answer, as i said before, no two computers are the same !

Run the Ace utilities app and delete temp files and junk files etc, it has several wizards in it.

It cleaned about 235 Mb of rubbish off my comp.

Then defrag your C drive and see if you can re-install generals. You could also try running generals in win 98 compatability mode.

Right click on the shortcut to generals and select the compatability tab, select run in win 98 comp mode.

The only thing else I can suggest is that you uninstall dx 9.0 B and install the dx from the game CD.

You can uninstall DX 9.0 with this app :

The only other suggestions I can make is that you download the Riva tuner, open it and see if you can enable side band addressing.

And Fast writes if it's not already enabled.

Or download this report app and go through all the sub menus, see what it finds

The second download down the web site page is the one you want to download, personal system one.

I downloaded Ace Utilities and used it, not sure how much space I freed up but I got rid of a good amount of garbage.

Im going to re-install Generals and install it with the DirectX that came with it as you suggested.

If your current directx is higher then the one that came with the cd, it will not install the one from the cd. Whenever you install directx version over another, the highest version will be kept.

So do I just remove it like a regular application or is there some trick....

I wanna get rid of the new one and install hte one off the generals cd...

the trick is that you can only change your currently intsalled version of DirectX with another install of directX.

With another downside that you can only install a directX version with a version number equal to or higher then the one you currently have installed.

So if the one on your Generals CD is the same or higher then the version you have installed at the moment you can use that one. If it's a lower versionf of directX it's not going to work. ...

So what should I do...the one on the cd is DirectX 8.1

And I guess the game dosent like working on 9.0b...

Wasent there some uninstaller i can download to take it off completely and replace it with the other....

I wouldn't mess with directx uninstallers. MS official word is that you can't uninstall Directx. The only "official" way is to format. Believe me, you don't want to have directx half uninstalled/installed...

Thats the last thing I need right now....

And I dont want to format....

Well....I guess il try a few more things and than hang it up until I either format or get a new video card....

Also, Now I figured you would like to know that I cant install Generals anylonger....

It gets to 38% and than an error pops up and sais there is something corrupt and it gives me a choice to abort, retry, cancel....

So um....thats not good.....
